We stumbled with the nice looking bakery close to the downtown area. Their presentation is wonderful it was hard to pick with all the options. Unfortunately the flavor was not great and after a few hours of traveling, the bread was no longer good. The attendant didn't spoke to us, only bagged the bread and gave us the price. Contrary to rave reviews online, La Purísima for me was not the best thing since sliced bread. The variety and quality just wasn't to par with what I have come to expect with Mexican bakeries, i. e Panaderías. The boleos are smaller but they don't have a crispy and crunchy exterior. They are soft and fluffy inside though. The choices of the sweet breads was sparse on the day that I visited and my service was not super friendly. I do admit I am not a local and I don't deserve a local's greeting but I am a paying customer and I was super excited to be there but alas I felt like a intruding fly that was swatted away furiously. There are a lot of bakeries in Guanajuato, perhaps not has well known as La Purísima but if the bread and service is better, I'll take my business there. read more

Delicious coffee if you want cafe de la olla you better get here early...delicious bread. We got to meet the owner who was very graceful and attentive. Service was excellent. They have a new area upstairs with tables and coffee shop. One of the tables has big glass tile which allows you to view the underground steet below. read more

If I could I would not even give this establishment a star! I have to admit I was really disappointed with my last visit here. I have been going to this establishment every time I visit Guanajuato & this time I was not impressed. On January 9th round 4:30pm, my family & I walked in & requested cafe de olla. The people that were there 2 guys & a girl were all on their phone. Not one said hello, not one looked up. When I requested the cafe de olla, they all basically tried to pawn if off one and another as if we were a bother. In retrospect we should have walked out. Not only was the service horrible so was the cafe de olla. I will never go back to this establishment again. I really think the owners should be careful on who they hire. ¡Si pudiera, ni siquiera le daría una estrella a este establecimiento! Tengo que admitir que estaba realmente decepcionada con mi última visita aquí. He estado yendo a este establecimiento cada vez que visito Guanajuato y esta vez no me impresionó. During my week-long stay in Guanajuato, I frequented this pandelaria on multiple occasions, often after I took a fitness class a couple doors down at Borregos Gym (yes, I felt much better about indulging in some pan dulce after working out, haha). They offer quite a large selection to choose from! I preferred bread that was a little bit sweet over the really sweet and sugary ones, but they have all kinds, in addition to non-sweet bread. They also make a couple of sandwiches, which are basically a chicken or ham stuffed into a flat type of bread that is enclosed (I didn't care of them personally; they also included lettuce, mayo, and mustard, from what I could tell). All experiences here were good except on my last visit, I selected a bread that I had twice already in prior days and this one was stale. Otherwise, my selections appeared to be fresh. Also, if you're not from here, note that to select breads, you need to grab a circular, metal tray with tongs when you enter the store to then make your bread selections and take them up to the register (and it's like this for pan in any other pandelaria or pan section of the grocery store in Mexico, from what I've experienced so far). They also have an upstairs area where they have seating and perhaps coffee (I didn't go up there). The prices are great (I paid between 4 and 12 pesos per item). read more
