Named after Francesco Melzi d'Eril who built the mansion on the grounds in the early 1800s, the gardens feature countless species of plant life. Some of the trees are towering above you reminding visitors just how old they are and their rich history! The entrance pathway runs right along the lake in the most picturesque setting. We had an amazing tour from park guide/ geologist Dr. Donnatella Reggiori. She showed us two paths: one starts from the Mulino del Ghitello to the Mulin del Canaa and the second one form the Mulin del Canaa to Ghitello. The geological contents of the Breggia Gorge makes the park one of the most important geo-topes in Switzerland. Along the river you can see the geology profile that is continuous between the Jurassic and the Tertiary periods. If you look closely, you can see evidence of the ancient seas in the rocks of the Gorge: layers extremely rich in fossils, remains of underwater landslides, witness to climatic changes in eras long before man appeared on Earth, and proof of volcanic eruptions. Dr. Reggiori will give you a full lesson in Geology on the tour. Make sure your kids take notes, they may be able to get extra credit in school :)

So....mapped a route headed to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and then wandered along the way. After saying a prayer in Chiesa di San Gregoria Magno (of course, I had to go inside), our family walked through what initially looked like a preschool. Instead, we had found this gorgeous park. Established in 1784, it is the oldest city park in Milan. Today it covers 43 acres and includes museums, gardens, statues and monuments like the Planetarium and the Natural History Museum. The park was renamed in 2002 for Indro Montanelli. He was a popular journalist who relaxed in the park on his daily travel to work. He was shots by a terrorist brigade in 1977. His statue is placed where this event occurred. Take time to explore Milan. You may venture and find a local gem, like this public park, along the way.

This afternoon, it…read morewas walking from the Pinacoteca di Brera to the Galleria d'Arte Moderna when I visited this public garden. The park was established in 1784 and is 42 acres in size. Dense with trees, paths, benches and a few spots where dogs are permitted to be off leash. Inside the park are the Planetarium, the Natural History Museum and more. The park includes a large number of monuments and memorials. The Modern Art Gallery is adjacent. I was here for a good hour before and after my visit to the Art Gallery. This is a huge park that's filled with several of Milan's prominent landmarks as well as a plethora of beautiful green space. The park often holds large events and gatherings. I came during the May Day celebration and watched the live performances and colorful parades. Everyday there was a different live performer in the park, all were so talented and entertaining. The walking paths are fun and relaxing. This is an excellent place to take a walk and admire the scenery around you. I also have to mention how friendly the people are here. I met so many great people at this park, from locals to other visitors. So many amazing picture opportunities here too. The green spaces are so gorgeous! From the ducks swimming in the pond to the lovely wildflowers; there is something for everyone to enjoy here. Your steps away from the castle, the clocktower, and the beautiful arch. So many sculptures in the vicinity to check out as well. Picnics are popular at this park as is people watching. You'll find street vendors on site selling souvenirs, handmade arts and crafts, and delicious street food. I mean, you can never get bored here honestly. There is always something going on and always something to do.

By boat we sailed past the villages of Bellagio, D'Este and Varenna. Each view just as beautiful and breathtaking as the next. No rush here. One must slow down, stay focused on relaxing promenades throughout the town villages, and / or ferry hopping at a leisurely pace to take the time to indulge your senses in the luxury of it all. **Please note, it does get quite crowded and touristy in the summer months, as does most of Italy these days. Pack your patience or travel in the off season** George Clooney has good taste choosing this location for his castle. Grazie mille!

Lake Como is a magical place and a must visit if you're in Milan. It's one of Italy's largest…read morelakes. It's about an hour bus but with traffic it turned in to 2 1/2 hours. You can also take a train there. Once we arrived, we took a boat ride to Bellagio and admired all the beautiful homes on the lake... including George Clooney's villa. We even saw the house in one of the Star Wars movies as well. Lake Como is widely known for its dramatic alpine scenery, luxury villas and charming towns such as Bellagio, Menagio, Varenna, and Como City.
