I'm really disappointed by my experience here, especially because this has been one of my favorite restaurants in Mérida. I was served the wrong dish, and when I politely brought it to the waiter's attention, I was told there was nothing that could be done and that I still had to pay for it. The meal was boxed up for me without offering a replacement or any solution. When it came time to pay, the credit card machine was handed to my husband for the tip, which felt awkward and dismissive given the situation. The food itself was also underwhelming. I asked about adjusting the seasoning and was told it wasn't possible. The flavors were not what I expected, and having eaten at restaurants all over the world, this meal fell well below that standard. For a restaurant that presents itself as service-oriented and welcoming, especially to visitors, this experience was surprising and disappointing. We've been here twice since moving to Mérida, the food is so good. The hub has gotten the same dish every time Salmon with strawberry sauce of some sort and he loves it too much to try anything else. I have had the coconut shrimp which is my favorite so far it comes in a coconut so the visuals are perfection, and I think just regular fried shrimp too. My friends had salmon and some other fish, everyone left satisfied. It'll will be the spot we take people when they come to visit us! Service is different for American tourists but it doesn't bother me. They stay away from us until you need something. They do kind of stare in your direction but you're not being interrupted often which I like. When you're ready for help just gesture to them and they'll help. I don't like seeing some of the reviews marking them down for service cause they don't deserve it, if you're a tourist just know things are different than where you come from. read more

Enjoyed our meal here before Christmas Eve mass. Octopus was great. Fish stuffed with crab was a little small but enjoyable. Loved the coconut shrimp. Service was good on a busy night. Came to this place following Yelp reviews. Our hotel is two blocks away. Service is outstanding. Food is mediocre ar best. Order a Pigua cocktail (schrimp, squid, octopus) and what the brought was plate with half a bottle of kepchut and the seafood. No taste but the one out the kepchut. Because of Yelp reviews I ordered the grilled octopus... one of the worst ever. A chewy cephalopode swimming in a sea of oil. No taste at all. My partner ordered a steak. It came cold, no sides except some frIes out the freezer. McDonald's are much better. The place is crowded. Dont understand why. Outstanding service and delicious fresh food. We walked around for about an hour looking for an open restaurant and found La Pigua. Love the Tijuana Brass music setting the tone for a restaurant that seems to have been here for a while. Ordered shrimp cocktail which had a nice red sauce with a hint of sweetness, followed by a white fish filet cooked in brown butter with rice and sautéed vegetables. Hubby had the calabash and cilantro soup and we ended the meal with flan napolitano. Professional wait staff who are friendly and service-oriented. We'll be back!! read more

Pretty good but didn't meet expectations everyone I spoke with said "oooh, so delicious..the coconut shrimp." Well, I didn't think it was so hot. The shrimp were tasty but really overbreaded and the sauce was way too sweet. The shrimp were too thin for the thickness of the breading. The fish filet stuffed with huitlacoche was good but nothing to write home about. The odd corn fungus somehow didn't mesh with the fish and overpowered it. I don't know what all the fuss is about with this place. I enjoyed tastier, fresher fish at Marlin Azul...at a fraction of the price. read more
