If, due to some extraordinary calamity, this is the last surviving restaurant in Murta Maria, keep calm and make a sandwich.
We came here for dinner and were treated to what appeared to be a fascinating journey through the world of pre-cooked cuisine.
The meat seemed to have had a long and adventurous life before reaching our table & it looked and tasted more like roadkill than pork cutlet. Quite frankly, it had clearly seen things. It was so tough that cutting it with a knife became the evening's main activity, while the generous amount of oil in which it was served perhaps helped preserve it for its next generation. We both managed roughly half of our meals before deciding that we had given it enough of our time.
The price, meanwhile, suggested something considerably more impressive. It is quite an achievement to charge a premium for food that appears to have been lovingly inherited from the previous owner.
The service was equally memorable. Following a perfectly reasonable review of our experience, the owner kindly added a personal insult to the dining package. So, for the price of dinner, you apparently get reheated food, an impressive quantity of oil, and--if you are lucky--a complimentary "spaghetti with ketchup" comment from management.
An unusually generous package.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Murta Maria, I would recommend almost literally anything else. Go to the supermarket. Make a sandwich. Eat spaghetti with ketchup. Take a picnic. If necessary, walk to the next village.
We certainly won't be returning, but at least the evening gave us something to remember. Hugs! read more
