With reservations a must, six of us finally got to try La Picara. There are a variety of tapas, ponchos and raciones on their menu. We tried a lot of them, and everything was delicious with the possible exception of Sepia a la Plancha, grilled squid which was too tough and chewy. Do NOT neglect to see their "Suggeriments fora de Carta" on a chalkboard. Most every off-the-chart suggestion we tried was exceptional, with my favorite actually being Tomaquets de Temporada amp Burratina í old D'Alfabrega. This was probably the best Burrata and Tomatoes serving I've ever tasted. It must be their spiced basil oil. The other standout special was a delicious Pintxo de Foie a la Plantxa, luxurious grilled foie gras skewer. A couple of drag queens came in promoting their show. They were a hoot at our table. Paola, the owner, was so kind and gracious. Service was fantastic. La Picara is definitely a must try during your time in Sitges!

This review is woefully overdue as my trip to Gratallops was in May! But Slate was so wonderful to…read morework with that I have had it on my to-do list this whole time! Back when we visited they had only recently launched their wine bar, Airbnb and tours but despite being relatively new, the service and knowledge of Katja (the wine bar manager) was GREAT! When I was looking for wine tours for priorat, I had a really hard time finding anyone in the wine business who had a helpful website or who was fluent in English so when I stumbled upon Slate's website I emailed Craig (the owner) right away for either help setting up our winery visits or (ideally) a custom tour with him. He was out of town, but he put me in touch with Katja, their manager, and we booked a custom winery tour of Priorat wineries for four people, as well as a special tasting of wines from some of the wineries we didn't have time to visit at Slate with Katja. The cost was affordable in comparison to many of the similar experiences we looked at, as well as completely customizable! Katja and I emailed back and forth a few times to design the exact tours, lunch and tastings that we wanted most and she gave excellent advice so that we had an experience we never could have set up ourselves. She also made our lunch reservations at Cellar de Gratallops which was a huge help as they were on our must-do list and they don't have a website for booking. Then when we toured the wineries, she translated at the places where there was no one who spoke English, and she even drove our rental car around the windy Priorat roads with much more confidence than we would have had (and it allowed us to indulge in all of the wonderful wines without worry). Overall, we LOVED our time at Slate doing our personalized wine tasting, we LOVED our time touring with Katja and together that was one of the best days of our trip. I could not recommend Slate more highly! And, as an aside, while we did not stay in the Air BnB above Slate as they were just finishing the renovations when we visited, we did see it and everything was beautiful! If/when I return to Gratallops, I absolutely plan to stay there.

After standing outside admiring La Pedrera and Casa Batllo, we were thoroughly drenched and desperate to get under cover --- and starving. It was after 3 and we hadn't eaten much since 9 a.m. Where could we get a seat? Everyone had the same idea! We peeked at the menu and were quickly greeted warmly by a wonderful woman. She whipped out a plastic bag for my hastily-purchased umbrella and bagged as we entered the place. We didn't even bother to check Yelp. We were too soggy! She directed us upstairs and I was instantly charmed by the winding staircase and the cozy loft area. The tables were close together but it never felt cramped. The servers and busser worked effortlessly around the area, and up and down those stairs. Talented! Whenever we wanted more dishes, a server was not far away. Those people don't need to work out, they are in constant motion. All the dishes we ordered were well-prepared and beautifully presented. They appeared quickly too. The chefs must work together seamlessly to carry this off. Highlights for us were the octopus, patatas bravas, prawns and dessert! The coconut pudding was something special. It was like a light flan on top of a crunchy coconut cookie-like base. Wow! We spent at least 90 minutes and kept ordering to make it worth their while. The prices were what I expected to pay for tapas dishes the entire trip but never really saw. Most places charged 10-20 euros per plate and served larger portions. These were perfect to sample many things. So fun! We couldn't help but think we really lucked out. To get a seat anywhere in that rain was a minor miracle. To get a really good tapas experience, excellent service and no need to rush was absolutely a dream. I couldn't have designed a better experience! Don't miss Vinitus when in Barcelona.
