Lunch time in Johnstown. The options in this area are extremely limited, so having a Mexican restaurant here is kind of a big deal. A group of 5 of us came for lunch on a Friday. There was only one other group dining during lunch. The place is a little hole-in-the-wall-ish, but is cleaned up enough. The have about 10-12 tables and a full service bar. Service was slow from start to finish, there was only one guy, but it wasn't busy and he probably could have used a little pep in his step to get things moving along. He dropped off menus, chips and salsa when we sat down. The chips were good, salsa was a little bland, but they offer 4 different hot sauces for the table. The menu is pretty generic Americanized Mexican food, there are a few options that seemed odd, but nothing too surprising. By the time the waiter returned, we were all ready to place the orders. We all ordered something different, I opted for the lunch portion beef fajitas. I generally suck at ordering Mexican food, so I usually opt for fajitas. I really wanted to get street tacos, and they show pictures of them on their website, but they were not on the menu. It took about 25 minutes for our food to come out, and that felt pretty long for lunch. Luckily we were on an hour lunch, otherwise it would be smart to call ahead your order. My fajitas came out sizzling! They also came on the cutest little cast iron for the lunch portion. It was plenty of food and filled me right up. It came with a nice side of accompaniments. The beef and veggies were good and seasoned well, had a nice char on them too. The sides were OK, the rice was a little over cooked and all of the side on their own were a little bland. However, when all the fixings are mixed up in a tortilla with the beef and veggies, add a little hot sauce, and it was a great bite. I will say that I enjoyed my meal more than I expected for this little Mexican spot in Johnstown. My whole group pretty much cleared their plates and enjoyed it. I think the best part is, I walked out of here for $12.50 including the tip. I would definitely come back for lunch and try more items, or get those fajitas again! Finally there is a Mexican restaurant near Amsterdam ny! This place was decent. They served margaritas which was nice except there's only one choice of tequila, not sure what kind it was... they have a nice selection of Mexican beers too. We're vegan also so we are able to dine here and receive fullllll belly's! The fajitas were very flavorful, they also have mushrooms in Them which wasn't stated on the menu.. but the flavor was delicious! The tortillas were hot and seemed very fresh the rice and beans lacked color, dull looking but the flavor was really delicious! They also serve chips and salsa upon arrival which is always yummy and fun. It was extremely cold in the restaurant since we were just sitting there (it's the beginning of January). Overall it seemed to be a "lifeless atmosphere". The decor goes well with a Mexican Resturant but no one really engaged in our company and we were the only customers seated in a booth. I do like that people can sit at their bar top, and there were a few folks coming in for take out. Maybe we might be back? It's cool to have the option available to eat if you desire. read more

We went for dinner because we were looking for some good Mexican food. That is exactly what we got. The service was fine. There was a small misunderstanding because of a mild language barrier, but other than that, the food was delicious. The place isn't fancy, but it's clean and the music really set the mood. A return visit is definitely in our future read more

I was born and raised in the southwestern United States and have traveled extensively in that region and some in Mexico. I love Mexican food and have eaten in in literally hundreds of places, from fine restaurants to tiny taquerias. I've lived in Central New York now for 30 years and have ALWAYS been disappointed with every Mexican restaurant in Central New York. I have been searching...The search is over. La Palma es muy FABULOSO. Much of the food...the salsa, the chips, the enchilada sauce, is obviously homemade. Juan, the main server, is friendly and attentive, although I suspect his English is somewhat limited. The food is prepared to order and with care. This isn't a fast food joint. If you want Taco Bell, go to Taco Bell. If you want the real deal, go to La Palma. Now, their tacos are kinda meh. Nothing special. But the Chile Rellenos? Best I've ever had. Real poblanos, slowly grilled, with two types of cheese inside....just amazing. Incredible enchiladas. I saw a fellow at the table next to mine a few weeks ago, with the "Super Burrito." It looked delicious, and it was enormous. Rice and Beans are the standard fare. Good. Final word. YES, this place could actually probably stay in business in Southern California. It's that good. Everything is fresh and absolutely delicious! Even my younger kids (who are picky) love the food here. And they The food here is really good, but when I try to order today they updated the delivery minimum order to $100. I'm not sure if they realize that we live in Fulton County. I'll take covid into consideration as I post but I truly don't think it impacted our visit. The place is decent , I won't say it was very welcoming at all. We arrived party of 2. Their were another couple dining in for lunch at the counter. It took a while for us to be greeted but when we were we ordered a few things to get a good idea of what's good....so 1st was beef enchiladas which were very bland and the brown sauce had a maple flavor I wasn't familiar with nor did I like it. The tacos were very disappointing seemed like greese hamburger w no flavor. Also the rice looked very appealing but wasn't seasoned at all when we tasted it. Lastly I will say the chicken empanadas were excellent!! They were fresh and filled w chicken and cheese w onion an seasoned pretty well. Overall I wasn't impressed at all. I personally think my mexican is far better. But I will give them another try after covid. I truly love mexican food and hope they step their game up. read more

I wouldn't even give a star at all if possible. My daughter and I went here for dinner and had the worst time. The only good thing about this meal was the Margarita. The beef in the taco was bland. The rice and beans was plain - Spanish Rice on half of the plate and refried bean mush on the other half. My daughter asked for burrito without rice and was not accommodated. The host/waiter basically didn't speak to use during our visit. We always say thank you for everything that or server brings us, always ask please and test them with the utmost respect but he didn't even acknowledge us. The worst part was when he brought out my dinner plate, I attempted to move it to give him more room and burned two of my fingers. He never bothered to tell me the plate just came out piping hot and didn't say a word when I yelled "OW!". Never, ever going back and it's not like we're a couple of Karens or tourists. "Almost" authentic Mexican food - Americanized slightly but the food was tasty and portions are generous.

Had to make two separate hour round trips because I was given the wrong food the first time around. I can look past this because mistakes happen, but the actual food itself was inedible for us. Meat was unseasoned, flavorless rice, flavorless guac, quesadillas were not even cooked on the outside so the tortillas were soft and the cheese unmelted, and my burrito was stuffed full of stuff it shouldn't have had in it. Very bummed because coming from the west coast I haven't been able to find Mexican cuisine in the area. The search continues. read more

I have never had a taco that there was absolutely no seasonings at all in the ground beef. I make better tacos at home for half the price. I heard there was a New Mexican Resturant in town and I was excited until I got my food. I got take out but my quesadilla wasn't like the real ones that are a bigger and cut it was 2 soft taco shells. First disappointed by that, the burrito meat wasn't that good either. Even though they give you a generous amount of salsa for the tostitos it seemed watery. read more
