La Opera is a MUST if you are in the zocalo! For those of you who don't know the story behind this very famous bar, it is one of the oldest in the city and used to be a very popular bar for politicians and aristocrats (and still is) during the Porfirio Diaz era. It is better known for the bullet Pancho Villa fired inside the bar, to prove that anyone no matter their level in society could and should enter the bar. La Opera was changed during the Porfirio Diaz era, to have a more parisian style. Porfirio was a huge fan of this particular style which is reflected in many building in downtown, including Bellas Artes. La Opera is definitely a piece of art, and would encourage everyone to at least grab a beer at the bar so you can appreciate the detail in the building. Their food is definitely not 5 stars, so I would just suggest to grab a drink.

I'm very happy I finally made it out here. What a beautiful restaurant with old school waiters who were attentive and pretty fast. I finally got to see the bullet hole in the ceiling that Pancho Villa in 1914 himself shot out. Beautiful restaurant feels like you're in Europe . I will definitely be back and soon .

Delicious food, fantastic service, the best restaurant in our trip to Mexico City! It was a dream to go and sit in the best seat in the house, right under Pancho Villa's historical bullet hole! The service was so amazing and the food was honestly WOW! LOVED IT!

Decor is lovely. No air conditioning so somewhat warm History of Pancho Villa shooting a hole in the ceiling is very interesting Service was very quick Ordered a mint julep (nice and strong, unlike many drinks I had in the visit) and a sangria Ordered aguacate de atun and the aguacate de Cameron. Both were had more mayonnaise than anticipated but that it probably my fault Overall good but probably would not come back. Would give 3 1/2 but not sure how The ají was nice and spicy Locals go so that means something....

This place is phenomenal and I highly recommend it. I ordered risotto dish topped with a perfectly cooked cod and Brussels sprouts. My husband had classic tortilla soup and a salad. He raved about his meal. He also tried my dish and he raved that it melted in his mouth. The service is extraordinary If you're ever in Mexico City please visit.

I saw this restaurant while I was on the bus and knew I wanted to try it. What a piece of art...extremely clean...live music and vast menu of tequila and beer. I ordered the enchiladas and shiza...and 2 different kinds of tequila. The meal: lovely!! I devoured that food!!! It didn't any salt...very rich in flavors and quest!! The drinks: pour it up pour it up!!! Reasonable prices drinks for a middle class restaurant Awesome experience!! Bill under $30USD

Great drinks, ambience, and very friendly staff. Although they lacked vegan options they made an attempt to accommodate my dietary needs.

Inside this upscale supermarket is a cafe and stations offering smaller fare. We love coming here…read moreto try new items. Most of the dishes we've tried are very good. The Aguachile is exceptional and the best we've ever had. Other favorites are the Tostadas de Atún and The Montados de bacalao. The Bocadillo de Bacalao was tasty and substantial, but I like the Montado version better. The Patatas Bravas are cubed and although seasoned and laced in crema, they were a little dry, but still good. The dish that was a clear miss was the Crispy Rice with Atún or Salmon. It was not crispy and was batter covered rice with a small bland topping. Service is usually good, but was not as nice as usual on this visit. Our first young man was super pleasant and helpful, but his shift ended. The young lady who took over was in a big hurry to sample food and chat with her coworkers. She started clearing our plates without asking and put a dirty plate on top of out Patatas Bravas while we were eating them! Mind you, there was no one waiting for our seats. A hiccup, but not cool at the prices charged. We'll try to avoid her station next time.
