The creamy green salsa in the squeeze bottle was delicious and super spicy which I love! Honestly it was the best thing of all. The salsa served complimentary with chips was very plain tomatillos sauce. The side of refried beans tasted like canned to me and the birria tacos ($18 for 4 with ample sauce) just were not the best. I'll go back and try something else next time. The waitress was great. I do realize it's hard to compare 98% of authentic Mexican restaurants to my F go-to authentic restaurant La Mexicana (with a market in front) which closed down on Siegan a couple months ago. I went there for at least 7 years on the regular and let me tell you.. the dishes were amazing and even their refried beans & rice at La Mexicana tasted like they were cooked completely from scratch .. like a true home cooked taste by a talented cook and I keep trying new places out looking for my new favorite.

We typically start with the fresh guacamole. Most of the time we order the birria however, we have also tried the gringa (basically a quesadilla). Everything is prepared in-house--from the chips and salsa to the refreshing aguas frescas. Their watermelon agua fresca is exceptional, though it's only available when watermelons are in season. The service is warm and welcoming, creating an inviting atmosphere every time you visit. We gladly drive 35 minutes out of our way just to dine here. Their tres leches cake, topped with house-made whipped cream, is the perfect finishing touch. This spot is truly a hidden gem in Livingston Parish.

My daughter was craving tacos and asked to try this place. The drink options are also pretty slim but I go for the food, so that didn't bother me. The lady at the window taking our order was extremely friendly. She answered our newbie questions. I asked about the size of the quesadillas, which come in "gringa" and "minigringa" size. The menu isn't terribly descriptive but I was comfortable asking about items. The gringa quesadilla was served open faced and it had cheese, pork, onions and cilantro. My daughter and I flipped it over to make a traditional (is that a thing?) quesadilla, but not before squeezing some lime on the contents. The tacos were incredibly fresh and full of flavor. We squeezed lime over these, also. They were a smidge on the dry side but were served with green and red salsa that definitely helped to moisten them. A word of caution: the green salsa is really spicy! I thought the red salsa would have been spicier but I was wrong. Both had a great taste. My daughter and I both decided that the tacos were good and the quesadilla was even better. To repeat, the food was delicious and fresh, and that along with the service and value ($3 tacos are a good price these days), we will be repeat customers.

It's a food truck so I waited in my car and it came out fast. I would go back but I would ask them to put more beans in it next time. I also asked them if it came with tomatoes and then they forgot the tomatoes. I guess that's my fault for not checking before I drove off. They give you a red and a green sauce and I thought they were both really spicy so just taste them first.

I ordered the ropa vieja, and it reminded me of a really well-made pot roast that's been braised until it's fall-apart tender. It paired perfectly with the rice and beans. What impressed me the most wasn't actually the beef, it was the congrí. I honestly expected the rice and beans to be more of a filler side, but they were packed with flavor and were enjoyable all on their own. To me, that's the sign of a kitchen that pays attention to every component on the plate instead of focusing only on the main entrée. That's something I really appreciate. A great meal isn't just about one standout item. Every component should be seasoned and prepared with the same level of care, and Elisa's does exactly that. The food isn't trying to reinvent Cuban cuisine or impress you with flashy presentation. They're simply focused on making authentic, delicious food consistently, and it shows. The interior was beautiful, the portions were satisfying, the prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent. There are several other dishes I already want to come back and try, which says a lot after just one visit. If they continue serving food with this level of consistency, Elisa's will definitely become a regular stop for us.
