I second the review by Alexandra N--I wouldn't trust them with anything important, especially as far as tailoring services. And, considering how recent her review is, we probably dealt with the same people. I went to them to fix a broken thread belt loop on a dress, a minor fix. They were not able to tell me upfront the cost; instead, they said they would call me and confirm the cost (it was $10) before taking any steps. I received no calls or even messages but the tailor went through with it anyway, without any confirmation from me. To make matters more interesting, somehow they lost the item, too. It had apparently been picked up by their dry cleaning folks. When they finally tracked it down a week later and I came in to pick it up, I found that they had fixed the thread belt loop (though not very neatly) but had also ironed the seam next to it at a higher heat than the dress could handle, effectively burning the dress and leaving an obvious seam line--it was a different color than the rest of the fabric. They refused to accept that the fabric did not look normal, claiming at one point that it could be dirt and suggesting it looked like this before I left it with them (I had evidence I had only recently purchased it). They said they had to keep it longer to investigate my complaint, but they couldn't give any assurances to if or how they would help fix the issue. Basically, they wanted me to leave my dress with the same people who first lost it and then damaged it without any validation for whether or not that would help--the owner called this "helping" me multiple times. Very silly. With all of that said, I can see why Alexandra N felt that the guy who fitted her "seemed like he had never hemmed a dress in his life." You'd think, as a place that provides services for and with clothing, they would understand fabrics better. read more

La Moda exceeded my expectations! I was totally wowed! After losing over 20+ pounds my beautiful furs and leather coats sat in my closet not being worn. I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars replacing them. But it's also very difficult to find an expert tailor that specializes in minks, leathers and shearlings. But a Google search lead me to La Moda in Queens. The owner Michael and his staff were wonderful! Everyone was very friendly and professional. My consultation with Michael wasn't rushed. He explained in detail what was needed to be done. I bought him a shearling, 2 leather coats, and a full length mink to be resized. I also had the shearling and a leather dyed to give the coats a rich deep coloring that had faded over the years. All of the work was impeccable and impressive. And the price was good too. What I appreciate most at about La Moda Custom Tailors is their flexibility, accuracy, dependability and expert tailor work. I've been coming to La Moda Custom Tailors for alterations for a few years now and I refuse to go anywhere else. My weight changes frequently depending on the season so I often need to alter a suit, dress shirt, pants, etc. Sometimes I need something done last minute and Michael gets it done quick and done right. He listens to the look I want to have, takes a couple of measurements and the clothing turns out even better than I expected. I've needed blazer sleeves with complex layers altered, pants tapered at the ankle, a whole dress shirt reworked. Anything I've given him he returns it as if it was made for me. Brought a leather biker jacket in that was very dear to me. i had recently dropped weight and wanted the sleeves taken in to give me that slim fit look. Michael was flexible with his price and worked in a timely fashion. I was impressed with the small details like matching the thread used in the original stitching. When I tried on the garment i couldn't believe how well it fit. You could never tell it was altered in any way. If you have leather work that needs alterations in NYC or the Tri state area for that matter; La Moda is the tailor you need to see, you wont be disappointed. read more

After going to 1000 tailors with a wedding dress that I was told was impossible to fix I stumbled across la moda on google. After one look at my dress he told me that he would be able to fix my dress with no problem. It was like music to my ears after one fitting session he recreated my entire wedding dress from the bottom up and I LOVED it.. I told him I wanted to do cart wheels..lol.. Decided to use La Moda for my work uniform back in March after reading the reviews. Had to get a suit jacket tailored to a slim fit as well as several shirts. The staff were very helpful, professional and knew exactly what I wanted. The uniform was completed to a very high standard, emphasis on very high, and fit perfectly. They are the best!!!! I will 100% be coming back here. It was my prom and I was worried because I had went a little late to customize it. He made the dress more comfortable by adding fabric on the arms. As well as tightening the dress a little from the waist because it was baggy. He also adding more room in the chest area. I went here last week with my lady to get her tailored for a coat. The tailor wanted to take pictures of my girlfriend. She and I were both uncomfortable with that. I never experienced or known a reason for a tailor to take body pictures of a customer. Beware guys if you have your lady going there by themselves. read more

I brought in a leather vest which was a bit big on me, but it was the smallest size it came in. La Moda tapered it from the armholes down, and was even able to get rid of the gap in the back around my neck so that it fit flush to my body.
