This little family run Mexican restaurant is still one of my favorites. The food is still amazing & top quality, & the owners remember their regulars & are very friendly. I've never had a bad experience with the dozens upon dozens of To-Go orders I've placed or when eating in. My son's go to meal is the cheese enchiladas with rice (with queso to go on to the rice) and fish tacos. My hubby typically goes for the grilled tilapia plate with a side of flour tortillas and a couple fish tacos, while I usually go for the pollo fundido (or beef enchiladas with rice, topped with queso, & a hard beef taco)... but I've yet to find anything on their menu that wasn't great, so it's all about what you're in there mood for. Currently they don't serve alcohol, but that will probably change within the next year or so... but don't let that deter you. Their to-go food is always hot & fresh, so I grab some Dos Eques (beer) for my hubby from the store in the way back home. We really are fortunate to have a great little restaurant so close to our Gilbert/Leesville home (where there's so few options)! Every local should make this their 1st choice for dining in or out. read more

Ordered the fried fish and it was terrible. The fish didn't even looked cooked, and we asked for beans and got rice. Also, ordered the Tornado Burrito it was okay, but it was cold. I have been going there for years and this was the first time the food was this bad. read more

I lived in California for a number of years where Mexican restaurants are very popular and there are many to choose from. Even there it was hard to find an authentic representation of the food and culture of Mexico. We have been searching to find a decent restaurant for 6 months now and I'm starting to feel like it's a fruitless search. La Mesa is no exception. The bright spot is that the service is very good and the wait staff attentive.it's a shame the food is not only not authentic but pretty awful. The cheese enchilada was made with American cheese just to give you and idea. The decor was just as bad. It could have been any restaurant anywhere. I think I will just make my own at home like my wife has suggested. I hate writing bad reviews but they need to hire a better cook. read more

This is the most authentic Mexican food I've had since moving into the area. If you live here you'll know that pretty much all of the Mexican restaurant have the exact same menu and appear to be owned by the same owner. Not this place! Each dish feels like you're at a friend's house who can cook real Mexican food! The spices they use to season everything is amazing! The steak is so tender and the chicken was moist and delicious! There's no "chain" feeling to eating at this restaurant. I strongly recommend checking them out! read more

Ok, this is the only Mexican restaurant in the area that seems to understand fresh guacamole and fresh hot chips with fresh pico!!! This is a sign of true Mexican food. I found this lil gem recently. Oh and did I mention they have real cheese too. So simple request and you can skip the the nacho cheese on everything. I simple request shredded Mexican cheese and that is what I received. No frown on waiters face. The younger gentleman server's here are amazing, not one time did any of them walk by any table without checking drinks, chips,sauce. We never had to fetch them. They worked together regardless of who was our server. I tipped them well, was the absolute best costumer service I have yet to come across in a year. The bathrooms are amazingly clean. Hence this means most likely how they keep the restrooms, is also how they keep their Kitchen. Back to food, I had #10 2 ground beef tacos, my simple request for carnitas (pork) tacos instead was no problem(additional charge) no big deal. Oh and they actually have fresh sliced avocados another Mexican staple, other Mexican restaurant could learn from La Mesa!!!! Oh and the beans actually have a taste here at La Mesa, good job understanding lard is a must in retried beans. We also had the steak fajitas Along with enchiladas plate. This food is priced right and food actually has seasonings. Another thing other Mexican restaurants could learn from in the South! This is my new go to Mexican place. They also offer out side seating under covered patio, with a tiny bar inside. I could go on and on about the service and food here! My money here is well spent when taking my family and friends out! I've heard good things so decided to give it a try. Being a Monday and during COVID, it was not very crowded. I found a great dish, Pollo Picante. It would also be perfect for those on the low carb diets. It was awesome!! Got two draft beers and they were a little flat. Probably will just grab a bottled beer on next trip. read more

I read a previous review. Being familiar with California mexican thought we would try it. Found the menu very limited. Tried Fajita Taco Salad. Have to say was pretty good. Guacamole dip was rather small. Being closer to home we may return. If we want really good mexican we will return to our regular place in Lexington. Far better in choice & taste. read more
