Oh my goodness, y'all!! This was the BEST Mexican I have had in so long! & I eat a lot of Mexican!! We both had the fajitas nachos but I always substitute chips for rice. I cannot express myself enough how great this was! Our server was Luis C & he made sure that we were taken care of! Great server!! Very spacious in seating & of course it's family oriented. The bathrooms were super clean!! Plenty of parking & handicap spaces & handicap accessible seating. We live about 30 minutes from here & will definitely drive that again to come back. We only had take-out here which may not represent the actual presentation of meal. Located in shopping center of Walmart Ballentine. I chose Burrito Loco for carnitas and as you can see based on pic it was 2-3 servings worth for $14.99 I believe. My wife got fish tacos which she was not as satisfied saying was salty. I had a splendid evening out with my family at El Charro Mexican restaurant. El Charro is a brother and sister owned restaurant in Irmo South Carolina. It is located in a shopping center and is right next to the shoe department store; the parking lot is tight but their is a lot of places to part.  The restaurant has a large variety menu of classic Mexican food that is at a reasonable price for the quality of food you are receiving. In addition, they offer lunch prices, kids menu, dessert, appetizers, and a cocktail bar. What amazed me the most about El Charro is the variety of fajitas they offer. You can of course get the traditional fajitas but I would definitely recommend trying their other options which include: Charras, Mexican, Texanas, Hawaianas, De Camaron, Mar Y Tierra, De Mar, Vegetarians, and Mixed. All of their fajitas come with beans, tortillas, pinco de galla, rice, and cheese. Tonight I had the Hawaianas fajitas and it was to die for, but I wished there was more pineapple; I loved the spices they cook the food in. The Hawaianas fajitas come with chicken,pineapple, bell pepper, Charo, onions, and cheese. In my opinion the price was reasonable for the large portion we got. The price was $23.75 for two. All of El Charro fajitas range from $14.99 - $26.99. Furthermore, if you eat in you get fresh homemade chips and salsa free with your order. If you like spicy ask for the extra spicy hot sauce they other because it will definitely make you turn red in the face.  When walking in you will feel like you transported into Mexico. El Charro has colorful walls, banners, Mexican music playing, and authentic wall decorations that match the atmosphere. In addition the place was spotless with no dirt in sight.  The service was very friendly and polite. Our waiter was attentive and very friendly to us. Lastly, if you are hungry and trying to figure out where to go to dinner, I would definitely recommend going to El Charro because I will definitely coming back in the future. read more

Found my new spot!!!!! I'm so excited to see that LuLu is here (our absolute favorite server ever)!!!! We've searched for her since she left the last place and are thrilled to see she is well and continues to provide the absolute best service. She is incredible! During both of our visits we were seated promptly. The restaurant is clean, staff are friendly and service is excellent. The presentation of the food is beautiful; doesn't feel like they just thrown it on a plate, heat it and serve. Thought and care is clearly used when preparing meals. Salsa for every palette. Hot, medium, mild. Individual bowls as well. The prices are reasonable. The food tastes excellent. The ground beef is seasoned well and isn't bland at all (like other restaurants). The garnishment is fresh!! I love that instead of a "combination" plate by number, you can easily make a custom plate. So much easier! The fajitas my son ordered were made without onions. This place is pretty good! The food is much better than the San Jose chain or most of what they call "Mexican" food here! Based on recommendations-and the fact we were stuck in traffic-we figured we would try this place out. We weren't disappointed! Reasonable prices and portions, fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions, lots of variety and nice atmosphere. I had the stuffed chili pepper and a soft taco ($7.50). It came with a salad with guacamole, cheese, lettuce and tomato. The pepper was really good. I ordered a corn tortilla taco but they brought out a flour tortilla. It was good, but corn tortillas are the only way to go for soft shell! My wife had the pablano and the quesadilla. The only issue there was the fact that they used canned chicken. That's too bad because you definitely notice the difference. The chips weren't excellent, and the salsa was canned too. I will say it was quite flavorful for what it was. What a HUGE menu! It's a lot to take in but I've been here twice and both times it's been very good. They have nice size portions and the service has been quick and responsive. In an area that already had several Mexican restaurants, this place has a chance to make it since their menu is a little different. They have lunch specials and loads of seating. Most of the seating consists of booths which is a nice feature. The prices are close to what others charge in the area and they deliver the food with some attention to the plating aspect. read more

Awesome food! I accidentally found this place as I'm not a fan of South Carolina 'Mexican food'. But this little gem in a strip mall as soon as you walk in, you are transported to a very cute restaurant, nothing what I was expecting based off the outside. I feel you can base a Mexican restaurant off their chips and salsa. This place; Salsa amazing, chips thin, fresh *chefs kiss*. Things just got better from there. Very reasonable pricing. I never like when they add to the price if you pay with a credit card, which they do. The food is good, but I think they could come down $1-$2 on everything. The Burrito Loco, pictured with the tomato on it, was good. Nothing comes with it. The Burrito Gordo had a lot in it, but not a lot of any. He wished the shrimp was and meats were a little tastier where you could recognize them. The cheese sauce was good. The last one was arroz con pollo. Very tasty. I'll get it again. Nothing comes with either of these 2 either. There are some chips and salsa served premeal. The service was good and they were nice. We were there at 8, they closed at 9 ( we didn't feel bad because a family came in behind us). I mention the time because where we sat near the bar, we smelled what seemed to be nail polish remover. It was off putting. Maybe cleaning stuff? If we weren't hurrying to not be a burden we would have asked to change seating. Without a tip, the cost for the 3 were $50.97 which included 2 sodas, tax and the surcharge, but not the tip. read more

I've been there twice and the first time was great. The second time I took my family and it was BAD! Right after our appetizer came out, a roach literally jumped from the center table light right onto my head!! Then when I shook it out, it fell onto the table! I knocked it onto the floor and my husband killed it. The waiter came over and asked if everything was ok and I told him that a bug jumped on me. He had no response. Then when our food came out my order was not correct and my daughters plate had hair in it. When I told the waiter that my order was wrong, he acted like he didn't speak English!
