Who says there are no such thing as unicorns? On that note, what about unicorn shops? I happened to see their A-frame at the bottom of their stairs on several occasions, so one day I just HAD to take a closer look. After seeing and reviewing so many places over the years, not much truly surprises me -- but this place did just that -- especially in regards to the decor. For starters the place is literally carpeted wall-to-wall in pink and the ceiling looks like blue bubble gum colored cotton candy. As I began to meander around the one room space I noticed it was filled with everything from mood rings, to stuffed toys, to sweet treats; all befitting the theme of all things in the realm of unicorn fantasy. This is a kind of store that should put anybody in a good mood no matter the weather or the state of the world. Some may find it 'a wee bit' over-the-top, while others may want to decorate their apartments in the same manner. Now for a little shout out to Sara who helped several customers while I checked out the wares and was very upbeat in answering their and then my questions. Definitely a memorable shop and I one I will never forget especially for those types of gifts. I was so excited to visit this store after seeing many posts about it on QC blogs and IG and had been wanting to visit here since they opened. While we in MTL, we tried twice to visit the store, but found it closed. When we returned a third time and found the store open, I was disappointed to find that most of the merchandise is for kids. Okay, maybe that's to be expected, but IMO, unicorns for all. There's a large assortment of stuffed animals and really more kid appropriate accessories and clothing. The only things I found semi-adult like were some coffee mugs and planters. I purchased a unicorn shower cap too, which is fun, but not sure I can describe it as adult like :). When I entered the store, which involves ascending a staircase (NB for anyone with mobility issues) the one staff person in the store was super friendly and chatted with me a lot in French. At first, I felt like I had a great vibe with her. However, after I had explored the whole store and was ready to make some purchases, she seemed completely absorbed in making some sort of frappe drink for a young couple. At this point, I just wanted to pay for my items and leave but she took such a long time making this drink and ignoring me, it was kind of frustrating. I understand it might not be economically feasible, but it would be nice if they had one person making drinks and serving their baked goods and one person just helping customers and working the register to ring merchandise. Now that I've been here and done it, not sure I'd return. Unless you have kids or are buying for kids, not sure it's worth your time. read more
