The location really is fantastic and we would absolutely recommend this hotel. Truly central, quiet and in a wonderful part of Florence. We've stayed at many fabulous properties and the service at this boutique hotel ranks at the top with the best of them. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us in every way - the front desk staff was warm and friendly from the first moment, allowed early check in, researched various options for our day trip and arranged the rental car that was brought to the hotel and picked up at the end of our use (a huge convenience when unfamiliar and uncomfortable about driving in the middle of the chaotic Italian city driving). Because of the location of the hotel, we simply drove over the bridge to the other side of the river and we were off to the small towns of Tuscany. When we asked about their recommendation on our first day for a quick lunch, the doorman walked us to the restaurant. The breakfast was visually appealing and tasty, in the chic and warm library. Perfectly flaky croissants and a wide variety of interesting warm and cold breakfast choices, including honey presented in the honeycomb. The breakfast staff was professional and exceptionally attentive - for instance, when one of my daughters went up to the room not feeling well, the staff assembled an assortment of breakfast items beautifully and offered to take it to her in the room. Loved the quality materials, finishings and details in the hotel. The heated towel rack, fluffy towels and robes, the great closet and sleek armoire with all the organized space made our stay even more enjoyable. The only suggestion I have for the hotel is that the cleaning staff communicate to the management if something needs repair. In our two rooms (310 & 311), the tub drains didn't work properly and took forever to drain. In the triple room, it was less of a big deal since there was a separate shower, but in the twin room that had the combination shower tub, it wasn't pleasant standing in the dirty soapy water waiting. We didn't complain because we were there for three nights and didn't want to be inconvenienced with repair work or moving to a different room. Overall, I still rate it 5 stars because everything else was outstanding and we would stay here again. We checked out their other two sister properties and although they were beautiful, we like this hotel better. The Hotel Continental across the courtyard has a rooftop bar overlooking the Arno River and the Lungarno Hotel has a beautiful patio restaurant with gorgeous views of the Arno River, but we liked the modern style of this hotel better. Guests can choose to eat breakfast at the Lungarno Hotel instead (for a nominal supplemental charge). We chose to skip that option bc our hotel offered plenty of options in their breakfast and the convenience factor. Perhaps if our stay was longer, we would have tried it for variety and to eat outside next to the river. The other two hotels were beautiful but a little stuffier and more traditional in my opinion based upon a quick visit of those two hotels.

(+) All employees and representatives of the company that we met were both friendly and helpful. (+) We had flight issues that caused us to miss the first 1 1/2 days due to the Italian air strike. They were very responsive to emails to ensure that our room would be held and ready when we finally did arrive. Saved a bit of the stress at least lol (+) Kitchenette with nice empty fridge to use. Just make sure you don't leave a mess as it could be a 50 euro charge after you checkout. (-) AC/ heat was very weak. Actually got a bit chilly at night, but it wasn't too bad. (-) No real English speaking channels at all The good far outweighs the bad here. We found it on the second pass (look for the house number 9, the large carriage door with glass and smaller regular door). Upon entry is a cool medieval looking "lobby" but with modern decor and lighting. The gentleman who welcomed us took the time at his behest to explain how the appliances in our room worked, show us how to gain entry after hours (there is no after hours staff), and give recommendations hand written on a map for us. Back to the "medieval" look of the place. At least the lobby which was originally the carriage house and room #2 have retained the stone and mortar exterior walls and wood beamed ceilings. The interior however has all been renovated with new fixtures, furniture, and floors, and windows. The kitchenette was equipped with mini fridge, micro-oven, and induction range along with cookware and settings. Again room #2 is a split level with the kitchen, seating area with couch bed, and a smaller toilet and shower downstairs. The bedroom and larger shower and toilet are upstairs. There are plenty of food and drink options within a block or two open early and late All in all, we're not only happy with, but pleasantly surprised to have found this place for our stay. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to stay away, but still walkabout close, to the main tourist area.

The hotel is also walking distance from a grocery store, smalls markets, bars, brunch spots, shopping, and major landmarks like the key shopping bridge also close to the jump on/jump off big bus tour stops. The rooms are a great size, clean, two English tv channels yet lots of opinions, very hot water, bathtub, quiet, lit up at night, private patio (access for all) off the dinning rooms. Continental breakfast was yummy and worth it. Dry cleaning / washer and dryers were onsite however expensive but city washer and dryers are available for like four euro. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Next time I am in Florence I will stay here again. For the two weeks it was about 1,200 in total. Five stars !

While preparing for a night out in Florence, I needed an iron to smooth out my trousers from two…read moredays in a suitcase. As none was in our room, we called the front desk at Hotel Degli Orafi to request one. Instead of the typical, "we'll send it right up," we were told they couldn't provide one for "security reasons." Bewildered at how lending a guest an iron could present a security issue, and knowing that even most mid-level hotels routinely provide irons in guest rooms, I decided I needed to speak face to face with front desk personnel to understand what this meant. Because as best I could surmise, the only "security" issues that could possibly arise from use of an iron are 1) that I might use it to bash or burn my girlfriend (she's far too lovely for that), or 2) I might steal it. Neither of which I had any plan to do, nor gave hotel staff any reason to suspect. When I presented these two scenarios to the front desk attendant, and asked what other security issue might be of concern, she said a guest might burn themself. Seriously?!? In other words, the security risk they sought to minimize was not that toward third parties I might attack with their iron, nor to the hotel itself, were I to steal it, but rather it was the risk to myself they were concerned about. Of all the lame excuses she could have contrived, that one deserved a double take! In 40 years of travels, having stayed in dozens of hotels on five continents, never have I heard an innkeeper express concern for a guest burning themself with an iron! While her explanation was the lowest point of my Hotel Degli Orafi experience, it wasn't the only low point. See photos.
