When you like the owner, it's hard to say something bad about his place of business but I must…read more First of all, the road. If you're not experienced driving on the roads in the Chianti region, there is NO WAY you're ready for the road to this agriturismo. It's straight up and only big enough for 2 cars to pass and in some places, one has to pull over to let the other pass. It's scary to say the least. In Italy, Italians eat dinner anywhere from 8-10. We KNEW we couldn't stay out for dinner that late and have to drive that road in the dark. Just wasn't gonna happen. That road was scary. Agriturismo usually means a "working farm." This was instead an old monastery turned into a B&B. The owner was (from what we could see) the ONLY person greeting guests, making breakfast, and cleaning the rooms. The room was very nice but I had the feeling of dampness while there and lying in bed. The sheets were very beautiful. I guess I misunderstood because I was told that in a B&B, you don't get your bed made nor do you get fresh sheets. I didn't know that and returned to my room after a day of "touristing" to find my bed still unmade and all my towels in the bidet where I left them. I also realized that not only did I need fresh towels, I needed TP. He was a little hard to get ahold of when you needed him. As a matter of fact, one of our party locked herself out of the room and when we tried to find him, realized that he had totally left the premises to go into town. We finally tracked him down and after telling him who we were (he didn't recognize our names) he told us how to get the emergency key locked up in the safe near the pool. Which is another thing. Walking in the dark isn't easy - especially out there. He has no ground lights on to light your way. Can be very dangerous. There is also only one meal served here - breakfast. You HAVE to drive into town either for groceries or a restaurant. Each room has a full kitchen so if you want to cook, you can. But who wants to make their bed and cook on vacation? Not any of us, that's for sure. Let's just cut to the chase. Mainly for the road, none of us would go back. It really is dangerous. And call me a pampered American if you want, but I want my bed made when I'm on vacation and I want fresh towels and TP for God's sake. And I also want to get ahold of someone when I have a problem. To leave your guests on their own to fend for themselves is not acceptable. He should have had at least someone there in case there was an emergency or a simple problem.
