This dental office attempted to commit fraud by telling my daughter, whom is a college student, she had 13 CAVITIES and she needed a ROOT CANAL and if she didn't take care of it immediately her teeth would fall out. She immediately called home and she was frantic. I told her to not do anything until we contacted our insurance and got a 2nd opinion. Fast forward, she went to another dentist in the same area and she was told she had 3 CAVITIES. Had I not listened to my gut feeling, my daughter would have undergone all of this unnecessary work and a lot of pain. DO NOT GO HERE. This Dentist is performing unnecessary work to profit off of patients with good insurance. They are committing Egregious acts for Profit. You've been warned. I'd give a 0 if I could. read more

I researched dentists in my area and after comparing yelp reviews and pricing I chose Dr Strother to repair a tooth which a dentist in a different town had already attempted to fix but the repair failed after just a few weeks. Dr. Strother repaired the same tooth and the work is still holding strong after 14 months. The cost was reasonable even without insurance. It's good to know I have a dentist who does quality work and is reasonable with his fees. read more

First off, rude receptionist. I had stated that I was previously a SDC patient and transferred to OrthoFX for aligners. I asked how much would it cost because OrthoFX had stated that their doctors would waive the fee or low cost, not a big deal if I had to pay out of pocket. She then asked if I had insurance. I stated that I did and she asked what is the company. I provided the information. I provided she asked for and she asked for the phone number of my insurance company, I told her I do not have it on me at that moment but I can provide it to her at a later time. She replied with, well I can't contact your insurance company if you do not have their number. 1. I do not have my insurance company memorized. Awesome, it is in the morning she may not have had her cup of coffee. I brushed off the interaction. Then this receptionist left me a voicemail stating that I needed a referral in order to be seen by their office and with my kind of insurance I need to be seen on base. I understand that I need a referral however, I am not going your office for regular dental work/exams. I wanted to get a consultation for OrthoFX aligners because military healthcare does not provide care for aligners or braces. I have dealt with plenty of rude personnel and just this interaction of the receptionist assuming is a 0 in my book. I do not recommend this dental facility. read more

I was looking for a new dentist who is in network with my insurance and was having tooth pain. Booked an appointment with Dr. Winter. I'm giving 1 star for several reasons. 1- it was difficult getting an appointment. It appears all 3 dentists have their own special schedules. Limited times with the two female dentists. 2- disorganized booked appointment specifically for a tooth exam for pain. I was specific I just had a cleaning and X-rays and didn't need a full appointment. Prior to appointment I spent 20 minutes filling out paperwork so I wouldn't have to do it at the office. When I arrived there was nobody at the front desk right when they opened. I waited for about 5 minutes before anyone saw me. I was asked to fill out paperwork again I explained I already completed forms online. The MA said there wasn't anything in the computer. I had to fill out the stack of forms. They already prepped for X-rays and full exam and appeared cleaning. I had to explain the reason for my appointment a second time. The office is small and lacks updating and the equipment I'm used to seeing at previous dentists. They had a hand held xray machine. The MA said doctor needed X-rays before she even came in to examine my tooth. To me it felt like they wanted to bill for X-rays pretty badly. I would have preferred they examine tooth first before determining I needed XRay and get exposed to more radiation. I was specific it was an upper tooth no problems with any bottom teeth. The MA said we have to take top and bottom X-rays. She insisted. I don't like how that was handled. Doctor came in and said nothing noteworthy on X-rays and did a short exam. She was nice but felt office was not a fit for me. Interesting they took unnecessary xray on bottom teeth. read more

I am beyond upset about how this office for lack of a better word screwed me over financially and physically. I got a root canal done with this office in June. I expressed to dr strother my issue with a bad dentist prior to this office that led this crown to a root canal. He was aware of my fears and financial hardship after doing the work. When the root canal was done, dr strother filled the root canal and re cemented the original crown I had on. He assured me that he was a perfectionist and it was done well. I came a few weeks later for my cleaning and told him I could feel a gap with my finger nail. He examined and reassured me it was fine and no gap and if i am feeling something it's microscopic enough to not matter. Fast forward to this past saturday it popped off. I had to go to a new dentist cause my insurance switched. They tried putting the crown in but the gap was healing already because it had always been there and with the crown falling off on saturday it had time to start healing. The gum was inflamed and the new office i was at says they recommend a new crown to be done and refunded for the work done. I wanted a refund because this is less than a year with your offices repairs on my tooth. If it was dr Strother's negligence, my root canal and crown not being re-cemented properly...I now have to pay for more work to be done on this tooth. Save your money and time. I called the office and they explained to me since the crown "wasn't theirs" they don't have to refund me. The problem was the cement. This doctor has terrible bedside manner and won't listen to you when you say something is wrong. read more

I've been using La Jolla Dental for all my dental care for over a decade now, and Dr. Karen Lynch has been my dentist for most of that time. I'm very happy with the compassionate, professional, pain-free care that Dr. Lynch and her assistants/hygienists provide on each visit, for everything from a simple cleaning to installing a crown. I'm amazed at their new 3D modeling technology that allowed them to build & place two new crowns while avoiding the extensive grinding that was required for a good bite back in the bad old days. Very efficient, small office in a office complex with plenty of parking. I've only been here during COVID times since I just recently moved back to the area, so they may be slower or spreading out appointments more, but I was in and out within 20 mins for cleaning and 40 mins for the X-ray+cleaning appointment. They've also been able to accommodate 4:30pm appointments, which helps me conserve my PTO for more fun things! Dr Strother is friendly and kind, a bit quiet. He explains what he's doing, what he's looking for on the x-rays, etc, and I've never had that explanation before. As a nerd, I liked that. I've lived in several places and a big problem in San Diego (experienced in Miami as well) is they try to up-sell you. I've been to so many dentists that have pushed me to get my wisdom teeth pulled just because they're hard to clean, told me I need a deep clean, special rinses, etc. Dr Strother is one of those dentists that will give you the honest assessment, and it's great to go to the dentist and not feel like you're at a used car lot. My only complaint is the cleaning feels a little rushed, which I wouldn't mind except for that I think it's what results in some gum discomfort during and after the appointment. I'm happy that the appointments are short but if I could choose, I'd add ten minutes to be pain free. read more

Check in and appointment was great. Front desk ladies were kind and seemed to be the most caring people. I came here for a second opinion and Dr. Strother was very informative. And for this reason I'm giving 3 stars BUT I WAS RUSHED OUT OF THERE. I can tell they got annoyed because I followed up with many questions, concerns, and comments about my dental history. About a full 15 mins of conversation. HE DIDN'T EVEN DO A FULL EXAMINATION, only relied on me to inform them of any pain. Didn't even measure my gum depth. And then the HYGIENIST did the cleaning. AND THERE WERE NO OTHER PATIENTS?! That office was dead and quiet. So WHY ARE YOU RUSHING ME? Also I got X-rays done somewhere else too! So why shouldn't I be allotted some time to discuss with you?! I'm debating between a 2 star review but I'm thinking that this is the first dentist to give me a very knowledgeable hypothesis of why I'm feeling pain on my molar despite no physical evidence. And he is honest despite being curt with his mannerisms. This also applied to the hygienist too. They both seemed bothered that I asked follow up questions. Again I'm no idiot nor am I sucker to waste money! Since I was upfront that I'm not one to splurge money when not necessary, maybe that's why they rushed me out so quickly?! I recently moved to San Diego and my husband recommended Dr. Strother and his team for my dental needs. Overall, a great experience! His office is located in a large business complex right off of the 5 freeway. You have to drive half way into the complex but there's plenty of parking. Dr. Strother is very professional and kind. He did a thorough exam of my teeth and answered all my questions. Larissa is the dental hygienist who does the teeth cleaning. Warning: she uses an electric cleaning tool in the beginning which makes a lot of noise and vibrates your whole face. I would recommend bringing some ear plugs or a headset to dampen the noise. She is efficient but thorough and I left with smooth, clean teeth! Because I don't have dental insurance, I had to search around for the best cash price. Dr. Strother's office is very reasonable (other places wanted to charge me more for the same basic exam and cleaning). My husband has been coming here for years and can vouch for their great services but more importantly, he appreciates Dr. Strother's good ethics and professionalism. I recently moved to San Diego and was in search of a new dentist. I definitely came to the right place. Dr. Strother and his team were super helpful and probably the most helpful medical professionals I have ever come across to be honest (I used to work at a doctor's office in college too). Scheduling an appointment was super easy and they were super flexible. I believe I did it via e-mail, but they followed up with phone calles/voicemails and also through the zocdoc app. Which can be super helpful! Dr. Strother went over my x-rays with me in detail explaining what he looks for when assessing them, he also went over my teeth while examining me and what he looks for when examining them. Luckily, I have never had any dental issues in my life and that continues to be the case. Since, I didn't have any issues, the dental assistant took over with the cleaning and she did a great job. I was in and out of the office in less than an hour and it was my first time there. I got x-rays and a cleaning, as well as had to fill out my new patient paperwork. Overall, I had an excellent experience with Dr. Strother and La Jolla Dental. I am super happy I chose them to be my new dentist here in San Diego! I purchased Groupon for exam, x-rays, and cleaning. Firstly, I got there on time and had to wait 30 mins to be seen. Meanwhile, nobody else was even waiting. So, when I get in, they do 6 x-rays, which is fine. Then I see one dentist who gives me an "exam" by pricking my gums. At the end, he says I have gum disease and recommends a deep cleaning, which will cost me about $1000. Then they asked if they could start the process now. I told them to give me an invoice for the work and I would get back to them about that. Then they told me that was it. I asked about the cleaning, and they said that they couldn't do a basic cleaning because I needed a "deep cleaning". This doesn't make any sense, so I asked why that was, and she told me to sit down in another chair and she would ask the dentist. I ended up waiting about 30 mins, and another dentist comes in, and gives me the standard exam. She says things look great! and that I have no cavities and my enamel looked good. Very good job! But, I did have an area that I should work on. She told me to do the cleaning and come back in 30 days to see if things are improving. Then she looks back at the chart, and notices that the other dentist said I have gum disease, and "checks" me again, and says yes, it looks bad in these areas and I should get a "deep cleaning". At this point I have been there close to two hours and didn't want to argue about it, and I left, without getting any cleaning and basically wasted my time. I send a message to Groupon to hopefully get my money back. This place is a scam - if you purchase a groupon... Maybe they do better if you pay in full... but definitely not a good way to earn my business. read more

I had x-rays taken, and the Dr. Strother explained the images and what he looks for. He didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need and personally started the cleaning manually. The dental hygienist then took over. The facilities have plenty of parking, and the office is clean and they have hi-tech equipment.
