Finding this place is going to take you a minute if you haven't already been. The service was point, got to the door, party of 2 immediately seated. The ambiance is casual for Bellagio, think family restaurant, bring the kids, the family, the neighbors. The pizza - not what we expected for all the hype of it being the 'best pizza place' in Bellagio. First off, by no means do they do half a pie with 1 order & the other half with another - so either order 2 pizzas or opt for 1 to share. We did their basic pizza, not really all that memorable. We were starving after waking up at 6am and only eaten a snack. We did some research and found this place after my SO mentioned we didn't try any pizza yet. We came in at 2pm and they quickly seated us. We ordered a mushroom pizza and a prosciutto pizza. I was imagining these to be small so I also got a spaghetti with clams. This was my favorite place to eat in Lake Como and one of my favorite for my trip to Italy. It was a short walk from our hotel so it was convenient. Staff was friendly and spoke both English and Italian. It had a good atmosphere. Just be willing to walk up or down steps depending which direction you are coming from. The food was amazing. There was a good variety so we wanted to try a few things. The pizza was delicious. The fresh ravioli with pesto had lots of flavor. The ingredients make a difference. We had tiramisu for dessert. It was my first time trying traditional Italian tiramisu. Loved it. I tried it at every restaurant in Italy after because it was so good here. It was just so-so. And our server was incredibly slow. Kind of a tourist trap for pizza. We ordered 3 pizzas -- the "Grotta", Valtellinese, and Davola. The pizzas don't come cut, so you have to ask them to cut into slices. The pizzas look great but the crust does not taste great, tastes like just-ok American pizza crust. The mussels were a huge disappointment. The spaghetti alla carbonara ended up being the best out of all the things we ordered. The menu has an English section in the back. The location is near the pier but you have to walk up cobblestone steps to get to the restaurant. It's pretty large inside and can accommodate quite a few people. read more

After a day of travel, we were a bit late to lunch. We entered La Grotta and were told the kitchen was closing soon so we needed to hurry if we wanted lunch. It was about 2:30pm. This place caught my eye because of their huge calzones so ordering was easy. We had the tomato, cheese and ham calzone. Huge it was! And also delicious. We split it which was a good choice. Service was good. Food was delicious. I even liked the cozy street that tucked this restaurant away from the crowds. Perfect lunch spot. read more

Very good food. Slow service- worth nothing, you must have a reservation. Greek salad is yummy, bread basket is terrible, chili pepper pasta is delicious and not a huge portion, the calzone is HUGE and can be divided into 3- also worth noting the restaurant uses gluten and none of their calzones are gluten free. We popped in here without a reservation, and it did not disappoint! We started with a great bottle of Chardonnay along with the mussels and greek salad. Both of the appetizers were simple but delicious! The great thing about this place is the gluten free pizza menu, which was a hit with the party I came with! We ordered one regular pizza, one gluten free pizza, and the pasta arrabbiata. The pizzas were delicious, but huge, so be sure to share as neither of us could finish our own. After 4 days in Bellagio I started to realize that the whole village is pretty but also pretty much geared towards tourists and with the bland overpriced restaurants that go with it. In general, I would classify La Grotta also as a tourist trap but after trying several other restaurants I believe this is one of the better ones, hence the rating. They are more moderately priced and what you get for your buck is more than fair. We had the spaghetti a la vongole (with clams) and the grilled swordfish. Both dishes were honest and tasty. The quality of the food was better than the higher priced restaurants in Bellagio. The service was no-nosense: quick but friendly. Another huge plus is that their restaurant is airconditioned which is not a given in Bellagio. I would come again if I were to land in Bellagio again. read more

Hidden away on the stairs leading up from the Bellagio ferry terminal, this is well worth the hike up the steps. The first thing I noticed when I went in was the delightful aromas. Clean, fresh, and appetizing. Service was prompt and efficient. We got spaghetti carbonara, linguine pesto (basil), and Parma ham pizza. All were delicious and reasonably priced. It's a busy place and I can see why. Come early for dinner if you don't want to wait in line. And then there's the Forst Pils on tap - a perfect accompaniment. What an amazing little place! Fantastic service from all of the staff. Very friendly and patient with us Americans. We ordered several pizzas and they were all delicious. The mushrooms aren't the best but there meats are tasty and their crust is excellent. Very buttery flavor and perfect crispness. We had an awesome breeze and found it very quaint. The mussels appetizer was plenty for multiple people to share and they were excellent. And they have great WiFi; we watched a semifinal World Cup match on my iPad with no problem. Very nice atmosphere and good service. The pizza was ready in ~5minutes. I ordered a sausage, mushroom, and black olive pizza. It was good except the sausage was not Italian sausage like I expected. It appeared and tasted something like an American wiener sliced up. They told me it was German sausage. If the pizza had of been made with authentic Italian sausage, it would have been better. Also, I don't think this is a €€€ price class. I think it's maybe €€. I took a photo of the menu and the price of most of the pizza is less than 10€. My bill came to 16€. read more

Our AirBnB landlord gave only a so-so recommendation for La Grotta, but we ended up there with the family after being too late for the other recommendations. The experience was so good, we went back two more times. Atmosphere, setting, and service were all among the best of our two weeks in Northern Italy. Antipasto and Pesto were fresh and very tasty (our 2-year old grandson attacked the Pesto Trionfo Pasto with forks in both hands! La Grotta was away from the Lake which was a negative (but I won't hold that against them). The restaurant was well decorated and the service was outstanding. My minimal Italian was appreciated and accepted. Upon first glance I was slightly worried about the food, because the bread provided with the meal was horribly stale. However, the rest of the food was the best Italian I have had in my 3 week stay in Italy (in terms of Classic Italian, it doesn't relate to experimental cuisine). Also the bill for two pasta dinners and alcohol was about $40, which I consider good for Bellagio. My wife had the seafood pasta and I had the gnocchi and salmon. Her's was great, but the gnocchi outdid anything that I tasted in Sorrento or Napoli. They were also very nice about the bill! Took cards and a discount that I had previously forgot to mention. Don't hate on the use of coupons, it came with the hotel under there recommendation. read more
