My wife and I purchased several cases of wine when visiting St Emilion in May 2019. We live in Arizona, USA, and the weather here is very hot between April and October. Jean Baptiste, who took our order, promised not to ship the wine till after November 15th, so as to not ruin the wine by shipping during the hot months. The Trump administration put a 25% tariff on wines into effect mid October. Jean Baptiste emailed us, and told us he would make an adjustment to our invoice so we would not be charged this amount. I offered to have the wine shipped refrigerated by a USA company called "Allwayscool", but he ignored this, and we were charged the tariff by FedEx when the wine arrived in November in the USA. I have contacted Jean Baptiste, who denies any of this. I sent him copies of the emails documenting all of this. No repsonse. La Grande Cave sells good wines, but they did not handle our order fairly, and it cost us an additional $1700 as a result. There are many fine wine stores in St. Emilion. I advise you shop elsewhere. They did not stand by their word, and it cost me a lot of money. Sad for them, as we are wine collectors, and would have been long term repeat customers. read more
