The highlight of my meal was the French fries--fresh, crispy, and perfectly cooked. The fish was good, and the portion was generous. My husband's ravioli was rich, creamy, and full of flavor, with the truffle cream pairing nicely with the ricotta and spinach filling. The biggest downside was the service, which was quite slow throughout the meal. Also, on a very warm Paris evening, the lack of air conditioning made the dining room somewhat uncomfortable. Overall, the food was enjoyable, especially the ravioli, but the slow service and warm dining area kept the experience from being exceptional. A good option if you're not in a hurry and are looking for comforting French-Italian cuisine near République.

I wanted to try traditional French food and this place seemed to have really good reviews about it. We decided to stop by at the end of our day for some drinks and for me to enjoy duck confi. When we got there and asked for a food menu they informed us the kitchen had just closed. I was really disappointed we had just missed the service by 30 minutes but we decided to stay and order drinks anyways. After everything me and my friend had gone through to make our way to Paris the experience we had at L'escargot almost ALMOST made up for everything that had gone wrong. Me and my friend had a blast at this bar!! The bartenders spoke english and answered all our questions, they were extremely friendly and the drinks were cheap. The locals at this bar were so amazing as well. They did not speak fluent english but they did make an effort to speak to us and share their bar snacks with us. There was a group of locals celebrating a birthday party and they were dancing and were pulling people off their seats to dance with them. At one point in the night a group of other locals and tourist came in and the atmosphere in this bar got even more vibrant. Like I mentioned before the amazing experience we had in this bar almost made up for all the things that went wrong on our trip to Paris. When I go back and if I am in the area I would love to go back and have another great night like this. If you are in the area I would highly suggest you go just for the ambiance.

I decided to do the 25 euro brunch deal with 1 hot drink, 1 cold drink, 1 sweet dish and 1 savory dish. I got a hot chocolate, orange juice, banana Nutella pancakes and crispy chicken brioche bread with cheese and onions. The service was quick and it all came out within 10 minutes. The orange juice wasn't good at all. It tasted bland and more watery without any orange flavor. The hot chocolate was delicious and it was perfectly chocolatey. The crispy chicken bread was pretty tasty. I enjoyed all the flavors together and it paired very nicely. The pancakes seemed a bit dry and needed maple syrup to act as a wet component. All this food for 25 euros was a lot and it's a good price for what you get. Cute spot with nice staff and decent food.

The savory rice was good, it just needed to be paired with some finely seasoned & roasted vegetables - adding a savory sauce to that would have been delicious. What was nice was that the server asked me my suggestions on how they could improve. The pistachio crème brûlée was heaven. I'll find my way back there just for that next time. Service is straightforward and on the slow side. The space is tight. They have tables on the outside facing Rue Montorgueil. This might be fabulous in theory but there is a lot of nonstop smoking in the outside area. We opted for inside seating in which we were crammed in the tiniest table that is even small for one person... but honestly all of this is a cultural thing so I'm not holding it against them. Pro tip for free tap water in France, you ask for a "carafe d'eau" in which you'll get a bottle of water and cups. This restaurant, along with most French restaurants I visited, provides complimentary bread. My boyfriend and I started out with 6 huitres (16€) which is a half dozen of oysters. These were medium size French oysters served with a mignonette, 2 slices of bread, and some fancy butter. Great way to start the meal. For our meals, my boyfriend had the Tartare de Bouef (20€) which is a bistro style beef tartare served with housemade French fries and I had the Magret de Canard (21€) which is a duck breast cooked in honey and served with roasted potatoes. My boyfriend didn't love his tartare too much but we both agree that our potatoes were perfectly executed and delicious. When I first saw my plate I was worried about the ratio and how it wasn't a balanced meal, but that all went away once I tasted the food. It was so delicious I didn't even care about the ratio of my starch overwhelming my protein and lacking veggies. An unforgettable meal that still mesmerizes me as I think back on my Paris trip. The duck was perfectly cooked and those roasted potatoes were crispy and addicting. When travelling I like to immerse myself in the local culture and this was as authentic as it gets.
