This place isn't one of those touristy places where they serve you bad food. They take their food quality really seriously here. You can tell based off of what you get. The wait staff is pretty nice although service is really slow. I suppose it is not the American way where they push you out. Instead, they take your time so you can enjoy your food. For parents of little ones though, I would have appreciated some more expediency. The food was sooooo good. They serve typical Provincal food. We got their seafood platter. The freshly made garlic mayo complimented the food perfectly. I also got the shrimp and rice. This was yummy but not as good as the seafood platter. The next day we got grilled octopus with rice. The octopus was perfectly grilled. For high quality food, the price point isn't too bad. I think it is on the more affordable end.

There was also a live pianist playing American standards. We got some fantastic cocktails, the "clover club" and "from Trinidad." We also sat at the bar and ordered apps. I speak a little bit of French and the servers were patient with us which I appreciate.

Loved the poulpes (little octopuses) which were tasty. The mange-tout were all right, nicely fried up, but I'm not a big fan of those salty little fish. The panisses are great: little chickpea patties, very simple, fried crispy and tasty. Apparently, they're a local specialty. I'm glad I tried them at Gilda's, because they were excellent here, and I can totally imagine someone messing them up. A perfect accompaniment to the other food. Gilda knows how to fry up some good food. Definitely a fond food memory of Marseille.

Chez Gilda was recommended by my boyfriend's friend, and I'm so glad we got to try it.The prices were also reasonable and the people so friendly. The chef was warm, friendly and made excellent food. His co-owner made amazing hummus that I will absolutely dream about going back for. This place is a must for anyone who visits Marseille. The jumbo shrimps were cooked perfectly, as was everything else we ordered (aka just about the entire menu), like the calamari and the octopus. We washed everything down with beer and white wine, and got to eat outside on a perfect late summer's eve. The restaurant is tiny, as there's limited seating outside and a counter where you can stand and eat inside, but it was clean and vibrant.

THE place to go when you are with good friends - or future good friends, and want to have some…read moreyummy and easy-to-share food ! Dos Hermanas is usually full (that's why I recommend arriving early, and not too ravenous, as you might need to wait a bit before getting a table) and is always buzzing with people's happy cheering conversations. The sangria is delicious, the tapas are really tasty. However, beware not to have "les yeux plus gros que le ventre" as it is tempting to try everything but it'll be very hard to stand up if you do so.. Better to order little to start with, and order again after if you still feel peckish! I've always had a great time there, and what's more to it, the staff is so nice and easy-going that you feel at home!
