When looking for a place to eat in Ghent, there's no better place than Jaggers…read more We recently crossed the ocean to travel explore cities on this side of the pond, and experience the best those cities have to offer. We've visited London, Brussels, so far, and now the next stop was Ghent. Even before arriving in Ghent, my friend Lori, after exhaustive research, had settled on us having lunch at Jaggers. We were not disappointed. Our expectations were all met. The food was delicious. Incredibly well prepared. I ordered the Ravioli met ricotta & spinazie 'Puttanesca and a Aperol Spritz and, later, a sangria. My friends ordered two chicken sandwiches, including one without bacon, and the other with, and Jaggers homemade cheese burger. The staff was attentive helpful, friendly, quick, and above all approachable. The atmosphere was awesome. Everyone felt at ease. It even started raining and several of the staff members started playing a bit in the rain as they completed some of their work in the terrace in front. The service is so great that the owners of the restaurant themselves, Jo and Franky Jagger, who proudly introduced themselves to all customers through their picture on the menu also serve you. They are there with you every step of the way to make sure that at Jaggers you have a great experience. One of my friends even fell in love with one of their cups - a sangria cup, and when asking Franky, not too seriously, if she could keep it. He immediately replied with a resound yes. And made sure she took it home as a souvenir. Again, if you find yourself in Ghent, do yourself a favor, pass by Jaggers and enjoy the great service and the awesome food they offer! I highly recommend it!

You walk in - and you smell the food cooking in the kitchen, and slight clambering of spatulas and ladles. Downside is that there was no English menu - so you had to kinda rely on the very friendly waitress to walk you through the menu. Best thing to get: - Appetizer: Mushroom & Toast - a lil bit pricey for literally mushrooms on top of toast, but the flavor was amazing for such a simple dish. - Main: Steak with the Mushroom Sauce & fries. Literally half the menu was Steak with some sort of specialty sauce.

Although they were incredibly busy we were able to get a table for two on their comfortable and covered (if not rain proof) patio. The flow for the waitstaff seemed bad, with the food coming out through the same door patrons lined up to be seated at, but the service was prompt if not a bit hands off. We ordered the asparagus (with eggs) which was quite tasty, but the stew I ordered was vinegary even if the meat was of a nice quality. The fries were delicious (most of the stews automatically come with fries in Belgium) and the stew wasn't too bad when dipped into, but it plain didn't work as a soup. All in all, it might have been an off day, but it was more of a 3.8 for me and I don't think I would get the stew again.

Delicious food and top notch service!…read more We had a dinner with friends at Du Progres in August 2023. All the food we ordered was delicious and the service was precise, friendly, and prompt. Food ordered: Fish Fingers with Tartar Sauce Burrata with Tomato Carpaccio and Pine Nuts Cote à l'os Belgian Whiteblue 1,2 kg Chateaubriand Belgian Whiteblue 600 gr T-bone steak Belgian Whiteblue 300 gr Kids Steak All steaks were perfectly cooked and were great overall. However, Cote à l'os Belgian Whiteblue was the best and most flavorful. 600g and 1.2kg steaks first arrived uncut, they cut a two pieces in front of us to show the cook level, and then cut them all in rightly sized manageable pieces. It was very convenient and resulted in a great presentation as seen on the pics. Thank you Du Progres for the great dinner and evening! We highly recommend Du Progres restaurant as a great dining option in Old Gent area!

I recommend you read the menus displayed outside before making your choice. The beau reallllly wanted to go to this place, so I gave in. I had the Kriek Max beer on draught, which was super refreshing. For dinner, we shared the Flemish stew, which was plenty of food for both of us to share. The dish came with a bowl of salad topped with a creamy dressing, and a side of fries. The fries were ordinary, and not seasoned, because it's meant to be smothered into the stew. The stew was classic dark, loaded with beef and slow-cooked mushrooms and carrots. The flavor was good, but not spectacular. It seemed like a good hearty stew to me, and went well with my juicy, tart beer. If I was to return to De Trompet, I would try a different dish... possibly one of their omelets.

I decided to go with the Flemish stew and a glass of house wine. I was not disappointed at all. The stew had a wonder broth - very hearty with a hint of mushroom earthiness. The stew itself had plenty of beef in it as well as veggies. I originally was going to split a bottle of wine with a colleague, but they were out of that particular bordeaux so we both went with the house wine. The wine went well with the stew and it was good enough to have two glasses! Had I not been so full, I'm sure a third would have been in order. All in all I was very pleased and if I ever go back, I'm sure they will get my business again.

FONDUE! We had bookmarked several locations on Yelp for our trip to Holland and Belgium, but…read moreeither the hours of the establishment did not work out or our time frame was off. So we stopped in Ghent for a completely different restaurant and found this place. We got the cheese fondue meal that came with an aperitif, the fondue (and fixings) and a chocolate mouse. The fixings were ample and not just bread - they provided a salad, huge purple grapes, pineapple, nuts and dried fruit and pickles. I have to stop here and talk about the pickles. They were what I would classify as "bread and butter" (which I do not like) but not like any I have had in the states. They were like a sweet dill - I still imagine their taste a week later (yes, they were that good). The fondue ... it was good, not great. It was on the herb-y side with a lot of garlic. It was good for the first few dips but then got overwhelming and almost too salty to finish. The dessert, while appreciated, was nothing special to note.
