I was greeted by some nice looking ladies who sounded very French and they asked me to sit down. I decided to sit outside since the weather was really nice. I ordered the Triskel crepe with prosciutto ham. Unbelievable. The flavours of the gruyere cheese, the egg yolk, the soft mushrooms, the slight saltiness of the ham, and the texture of the crepe made this one of the most delicious savoury crepes I had for a while. I actually had a savoury crepe that was very scrumptious and delicious. I spent less than $15 for it and I got my stomach really full. Presentation was very impressive. The place might be very small, but the outdoor seating is nice, and you could do a lot of "people watching" It is located on Hardware Lane, one of the most popular lanes in Melbourne and deep in the heart of the city. They take cash only, so make sure you have a $20 bill in your pocket if you are getting a crepe here. The ladies here were fairly friendly and like I said earlier, sounded very French. Overall, if you are looking for a great lunch under $15 on one of Melbourne's lanes in a great setting, this place is a pretty good choice. I thought I had one of the best crepes in Melbourne so far, and I hope this place continues to be consistent, and maintain its strong French identity.

The waitress that served me was very good and even tolerated my bad attempt at greeting her in French. :-) When the food came out it was very nice... I ordered the La Triskel which was Egg, Swiss Gruyere Cheese and Mushrooms. I also paid an extra $1.50 to get turkey on mine. While the crepe was not that visually appealing, boy did it taste good! A great place for work lunches with great outdoor seating if weather permits!

I went to Rue de Creperie with a group of vegans. Rue de Creperie can make most of their crepes…read morevegan, which is awesome considering that crepes are usually pretty heavy on the dairy and eggs. Rue de Creperie catered for us beautifully even though we were all vegan and were a fairly large group (7-8 people). In fact, there were almost TOO many choices -- we vegan-folk are used to only having one or two options on the menu -- so we sat there for ages exclaiming in delight over everything and debating back and forth about what to get. The young French waiter put up with this waffling (pun intended) with an elegant, half-pained expression on his face, so typical of the French, then took our orders with quick precision and disappeared. Voilà! Within minutes, our first round of crepes was served. We all ordered savoury crepes to start with. I had Cheese & Tomato with cherry tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. The vegan cheese they used was Cheezly. I'm not usually a huge fan of Cheezly, but I have to admit it tasted pretty darn good in the crepe. A funny thing about my crepe as opposed to everyone else's is that it mine came out open-faced, with a giant square window in it -- a giant square window into its delicious Cheezly soul. After that we ordered a round of sweet crepes. This time the crepes took a long time to arrive -- over 40 minutes. Granted, the place had started filling up with lots of other diners by then, and we *were* a pretty large group with special dietary requirements, but the wait did seem unnecessarily long. But man, oh, man, I loved that sweet crepe. It came with a scoop of yummy vegan vanilla ice cream, some chopped nuts and a drizzle of vegan Nutella sauce. Everyone else in our group loved their sweet crepes too. In fact, I'd say we all preferred our sweet crepes over our savoury ones, so maybe it's fair to say that sweet crepes are Rue de Creperie's strong point. Anyway. After stuffing ourselves full of two rounds of crepes, we all left Rue de Creperie feeling delightfully heavy and full of delicious saturated fat. Very pleased to know where I can find yummy vegan crepes in Melbourne from now on. For the record, here are the crepes they can make vegan: SAVOURY - Veggie Galette, Mushroom & Cheese, Cheese & Tomato, or Walnut & Fig. SWEET - Sugar and Lemon, Strawberry Heaven, Salted Caramel, Banana Split, Thailand Special, Pear Belle, or Apple Delight. All come with vegan vanilla ice cream.
