(Last visited 7/11/2021.) So a day or so ago we were at a natural wine store in Bordeaux Center store and were just chatting with others. We were quickly made out to be "the foreigners" from America so we got to chatting it up. People were asking us what we were doing and stuff so we mention going to climb "The Dune" that's on the west coast of the country. Someone mentioned HAVING to check out La Coorniche since we'd be in the area. Well, after a grueling hike up and down that dune, twice, we treated ourselves to La Coorniche... Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: So, this place is highly sought-after. It was a Sunday evening and this place was packed. I highly recommend making reservations as far in advance as possible. So we rolled right up to the open-air chic, modern, lively restaurant in flip-flops, sandals, dingy clothes from the beach, messy hair and a sunhat... hoping to get a table. Lol. And we did. They sat us right away and this place is GORGEOUS. All the staff are dressed head-to-toe in white and are very friendly. This restaurant is attached to the La Coorniche hotel so you can sit next to a pool, at the glass barrier to look out into the Mediterranean. You can watch the sunset from the huge outdoor section or you can dine in the more conservative manner and eat indoors. Then at night, the DJ sets up and you can dance into the night! This place just has EVERYTHING! Service: Romain took excellent care of us and he was amazing. He was super funny, talkative and entertaining for sure. He cracked some jokes about us being from out the country and it was all in good fun. Lol. Food: Being in France and feeling like I'm at a prestigious restaurant, I didn't hold anything back. Lol. So I started with the "Plateau Cuit" which is "cooked platter" in French so I went for it! On this cooked platter was 1 whole crab or spider crab (depending on what had arrived in the kitchen), 3 langoustines (very small lobsters), 6 prawns, 250 grams of whelks (large snails) and 100 grams of periwinkles (small snails). This was A LOT of food and a bit of work cracking shells, yanking snails as well as keeping an appetite! Lol. Everything was so freaking fresh and so delicious. I had never eaten snails in this manner before and honestly, they were quite good! The sauces that came with them made them even easier to scarf down! The platter was quite decorative and "baller" if I may add. It was served on ice and very elegant platform. For my entrée I opted for their 2-coure combo which comes with a main course and a dessert. My entrée was a delicious piece of red meat served with a a thin later of fat still left on it that added extra flavor. On the side was a like, a fluffy, delicious sweet piece of cornbread. (I'm sorry if I'm doing a terrible job explaining what I had, but in reality, I don't know what I had! Lol, I just know it was amazing!) For dessert I had this sort of chocolate explosion which was basically the chef flexin' on us. It was like, 5 different desserts on one plate all composed of chocolate in some form. Just check out my pictures. Lol. Value: Based on what I just wrote... you already know this place was expensive, but... worth it? Absolutely. My seafood platter hit for 60€. The 2-course dinner was 73€. Totally worth it and would do it again in a heartbeat. It's not something I'd do everyday or even every weekend, but while in the western part of France, I had to splurge. In conclusion, I'm so thankful that someone recommended this place to us. Great view, decent steak. Underwhelming staff, after making a reservation once arrived it seems like if they figure out you are not a local or regular you have to stare at empty tables closer to the pool for hours. They will claim they do placement in a fair manner but when the waiter claims it's take 2 months to get that table and those are empty until you grab your coffee something is up ( 2 hours+ in ). I haven't been to this spot since it had got their fifth star almost 10 years ago and you shouldn't expect that level of service. Go for a drink at the bar, enjoy the view. Avoid the restaurant. Doesn't seem like they want to expand their clientele. Or better yet avoid the whole place grab yourself a bottle of champagne and enjoy the view by the valet and you will avoid any issue in terms of service. read more

After a strenuous hike up the famous Dune of Pyla, http://tinyurl.com/77t9gn3, the highest sand dune in Europe at 370 variable feet high, La Corniche was a welcome break on the way down, situated as it is, on the very edge of the dune. Built overlooking the Atlantic and just at the entrance of the famous Bay of Arcachon, http://bit.ly/Nl6gID, remains of German bunkers dot the coastline below it, reminders of the state of Europe just a couple of generations ago. Designed by Philippe Starck, it doesn't feature the usually recognized design flourishes he is know for, rather fitting more within and with the "stark" landscape it sits in. Apparently a much photographed spot, a sign is posted saying "not allowed" to the lookie lous at the restaurant entrance, if you are not a diner there. We were not, as we had opted for a drink and appetizer in the "bar" area of the wood platform just on the other side of the rope divider. So my interior shot was taken " on the run". A very inviting pool is situated at the far end of the deck, although the weather was not quite warm enough for bathers that day. After a very nice local chorizo type sausage and a delicious sangria, we headed out and back down the hill, this time on the road that gets you to the restaurant and where we had left the car below. On the way out we looked in at the neighboring hotel lobby, which indeed had more of the recognizable Starck touches, including a human sized chess board in the entrance patio. Quite a lovely location in a very celebrated and celebrity popular area of France, (reason this expensive hotel / restaurant was built) coincidentally just 1 hour from Bordeaux, this gorgeous bay has retained its old world flavor. What a beautiful hotel... designed by Philippe Starck, it is classy and luxurious yet homey and comfortable. Let's put it this way: when you are in your hotel room, which are called "cabanes", there is no reason whatsoever to leave the room! The beds are extremely comfortable, you've got your own private sunbed on your terrace, with a breathtaking view... !! In the hotel, there is a salon with board games, and while we were there, we were able to let the kids play around without disrupting the other guests. The pool is spectacular as well, and of course, being a luxury hotel, the staff and service are impecable. A place I highly recommend for a relaxing escapade... read more

The location is wonderful and you expect only the best in a place like this, and it is what you get. Of course you pay for it. Oysters are a must here and I would also recommend the cocktails, 12 euro is a bit too much but are well done and the location needs something "cool" :D! read more

Food is good but the service is just so so. Firstly, there is no English menu. Secondly, the waiter is very unhelpful. The waiter doesn't know how to speak English and told me in a very straightforward and disdaining attitude:" I don't know what french fries is, OK?" I got my Google translation to finally solve the problem but should this be a waiter's responsibility to find another waiter who speaks English to help if himself doesn't understand English? Thirdly, I called waiters for three times but no responses until the forth time. I asked for the location of toilets but the waiters ignored my question, started to chat with one another, and didn't finish their talking for a long time (about several minutes). Overall, a lot of waiters show a dissatisfying attitude and I def would not recommend you to go there. read more

Let's get to it! The food was pretty good with a nice presentation, but unfortunately one of the dishes came cold as if it were siting out for a while. The water was warm, which was odd because this restaurant looked so nice and high end. I expected a bit better especially considering how high the prices are. The service was really good and they have a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. Overall a 3 star place but considering the cost of everything it could even be 2.5, but definitely not 4 stars. read more
