After a strenuous hike up the famous Dune of Pyla, http://tinyurl.com/77t9gn3, the highest sand dune in Europe at 370 variable feet high, La Corniche was a welcome break on the way down, situated as it is, on the very edge of the dune. Built overlooking the Atlantic and just at the entrance of the famous Bay of Arcachon, http://bit.ly/Nl6gID, remains of German bunkers dot the coastline below it, reminders of the state of Europe just a couple of generations ago. Designed by Philippe Starck, it doesn't feature the usually recognized design flourishes he is know for, rather fitting more within and with the "stark" landscape it sits in. Apparently a much photographed spot, a sign is posted saying "not allowed" to the lookie lous at the restaurant entrance, if you are not a diner there. We were not, as we had opted for a drink and appetizer in the "bar" area of the wood platform just on the other side of the rope divider. So my interior shot was taken " on the run". A very inviting pool is situated at the far end of the deck, although the weather was not quite warm enough for bathers that day. After a very nice local chorizo type sausage and a delicious sangria, we headed out and back down the hill, this time on the road that gets you to the restaurant and where we had left the car below. On the way out we looked in at the neighboring hotel lobby, which indeed had more of the recognizable Starck touches, including a human sized chess board in the entrance patio. Quite a lovely location in a very celebrated and celebrity popular area of France, (reason this expensive hotel / restaurant was built) coincidentally just 1 hour from Bordeaux, this gorgeous bay has retained its old world flavor. Just don't come here in the high season, as the population quadruples.

After our wine tasting at St. Emilion, my husband and I decided to make the trek here. About an…read morehour and a half later, we arrived, found parking and got seated within two minutes. Originally, I was a bit worried I'd need to whip out Google translate for the menu (but my husband says he couldve translated some of the menu because he is a chef who studied French culinary arts) but all worry was moot due to the English menu (oh thank goodness). That aside, we decided with tap water, the assortment of starters which consisted of cured meats, smoked salmon, ground up tuna, shrimp and duck with lots of servings of bread - I swear, with each dish and empty bucket, our waitress just refilled it with four more pieces of warm bread. My favorite as always was definitely the chorizo! My husband also got oysters and I certainly am not a fan but he made me try - which, honestly, he put too much lemon juice and I still am not a fan but according to him, it was good and fresh (I guess as long as it's fresh, you can't go wrong with it). Next came our entree which consisted of duck breast with his duck liver and my pork. The foie gras was super fatty and melted in mouth and the duck was cooked to perfection. My pork neck was pretty good and I loved the sauce that went along with it. I was happy to get some salad too because on vacation, I feel like vegetables become a side character that scarcely appears. I was definitely full after dinner and one dessert was good for the both of us. And being fans of chocolate, we got the chocolate dome which wasn't too sweet. Overall, our experience here was terrific! Would recommend if you're in the area - plus it's close to a beach so I think it'll be nice in the afternoon.

Great staff - very friendly and the food is awesome! Intimate seating and dog friendly.read more

She cannot handle too much food at all, one stater is already pushing her limit. My three year old is hard to guess, wether he's going to eat much or not that meal. So I could only order so much in the beginning and add more later on. This has been a constant problem in many French restaurants. However, to my surprise the beautiful waitress here had no problem with that at all! And was always serving is with a hearty smile! I was very happy with the food and the service! The food, by the way, cannot be complained! Even the child' s menu provides the yummiest chicken breast with cream sauce and half French fries and half portion vegetables of the day. To my surprise, my son nearly finished all his food! Even the veggies!!! He loved it!! I strongly recommend you to give this place a try! The only down side that I could think of is that the oysters are a bit smaller than other restaurants, but this we knew from the beginning. It was marked No. 4 in the menu. For oyster lovers might be a little disappointing, but hey, the flavor is still really good.

We were lucky to have an outdoor seating overlooking the smal fish harbour across from us. We stayed for a good 3 hours and has the pleasure of experiencing the tide come back a lift the boats up in the dock. It is a fairly small place with limited seats and worked with a set menu. 3 fish and 3 meat mains, a selection of starters and and deserts. Our party opted for mains and desserts since it had been a very warm day. Selection of wines is nice and local, which is obvious given the area. half the party opted for fish and half for the meat. What was really above and beyond was that they made the extra effort, as one in the party is vegetarian, to put up a special dish off the menu for her. The meat was made perfect the way we asked for it; medium rare and had a nice roasted crust off the grill. The sauce and butter with it had a lot of flavour and complemented the dish nicely. Potatoes had a very nice crusty and excellent seasoning. The fish was delicate and enhanced by a very tasty risotto. Desserts option were very traditionally french; creme brûlée, lemon curs, cheese platter and a selection of sorbets. The Creme Brûlée was top notch and portions were above average, which was great given the tastiness. The lemon curd crumble dessert was to die for. All layers, crumble, curd, different types of meringue, was amazing on its own and together it was next level. Ice cream and sorbets were all made in the restaurants and a very nice option for dessert. Sorbets had a lot of fresh labor to it. This place may be a little hard to find/get to outside the immediate restaurant area for the village, but well worth the extra effort. Price wise slightly above average for the area, but for us a great value for money.
