Lunch time on a Sunday and looking forward to Mexican food in New Mexico. Order a #12. Chili Verde with 2 Chile relleno beans and rice and an order of Taquitos with beans and rice. The Chile relleno were different than the usual, Different from any chili relleno I ever had before. The Anaheim chile was undercooked in my opinion and the cheese was on top rather the usual in the middle. The taquitos were described as meh. Beans and rice were ok. It had a high volume of noise prompting people to talk even louder. Service okay, appears regulars get attention first. read more

Food was so delicious and authentic. Our first time there when we visited Silver City in August 2026. Service was outstanding too! Definitely recommend! read more

Cheese enchiladas had no cheese! :) Crazy that the establishment is always packed; guess I'm used to Northern New Mexico cuisine. BUT shouldn't cheese enchiladas have cheese inside? Probably won't return but they need to step up their game... :( read more

Everything about this place rocks. Atmosphere, service, and food. They make all their own chips and sauces. Everything is super delicious. I'll go every time I am in town. read more

Great service, very kind and accommodating for dietary needs. Flexibility in that regard is a huge plus. I have only eaten the chicken taco plate, flautas and and the Mexi-Mix Salad which have all been consistently good. My partner often gets the chimichanga which have also been consistently good. Would recommend. read more

Excellent food and service. Great location. Every time I visit LA Cocina it's always great. The chips and salsa are delicious and free. read more

LA Cocina Restaurant - Smothered Roast Beef Burrito - Mexican Near Me - Silver City, New Mexico

We absolutely love eating here! The food is great. It's very reasonably priced and the staff is always friendly and helpful!

Tried this location as it was close to our driving route. However, we were dissatisfied as the taste fell flat especially for the prices (which seemed a high compared to other places in the area). We ordered the tacos and Gorditas which were good but not great. We had ordered items to go which they had forgot about, but still tried to charge us for. The chips and salsa were ok as well. Overall, we hope this was an off day for them but we won't be back anytime soon. read more

Great New Mexican food and take out. The good employees and the owners always there to make sure you get great food all the time. The place has 2 different areas to eat. One for mostly take out and fast service the other more traditional. Kinda hard to say anything wrong when La Cocina is doing things right. Huh read more

Very good food even when we order take out. The order is always correct and well-packaged.

Man I'm gaining weight! We are now locked in as regulars. My husband isn't a Mexican food person but this place he always say yes let's go. read more

Wife and I love this place. Great food and wonderful staff. Very authentic food. Have been here twice and will be back.

For such a small and simple cafe, La Cocina really has an incredible menu with every conceivable combination of enchiladas, chimichangas, tacos, and burritos imaginable. I really enjoyed the 'enchilada-style' chicken chimichanga smothered in green chili sauce and cheese. The chimichanga is packed with tender white chicken meat. I'm glad I opted for simply the chimichanga and not the complete meal with beans and rice because there is no way I could eat that much good food! Glen enjoyed a combo with an enchilada, chile relleno, taco and rice. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Nice friendly service and reasonable prices. read more

LA Cocina Restaurant - Enchilada Style Chimichanga with loads of shredded chicken - Mexican Near Me - Silver City, New Mexico

We visited Silver City on a Sunday and Monday. Very little was open. La Cocina was one of them. This place is not as nice as some of the local neighborhood taco shops i have eaten at in TJ. Food was ok, service was not good. I will say, if you like spice, maybe you will like La Cocina a little better. The green sauce enchilada had good flavor but was VERY spicy. They have two levels, Very Spicy and Ver, Very Spicy. I am not a fan of that. Let me put it this way, locals said order the hamburger. Why would i go to a Mexican restaurant for a hamburger. The college police office and his family, eating at the same time we were, must have known, they ordered hamburgers. read more

We ordered take out from here for a family dinner spanning three generations. Everyone enjoyed their food. I tried the quesadilla tacos which were tasty. I loved their salsa--good amount of heat and flavor! The portions are generous. My uncle ordered two burritos since given the low price he thought they may be small (as in Golden Pride size) but they were huge so he had a full meal for the next day! I passed by the place the next day and it's not inviting, so I'd recommend just taking out. read more

One visit was enough. I came on a recommendation that it was "worth the wait" and they weren't kidding it was a LONG wait. 45+ minutes at 330 pm on a Monday for two meals. Only one other patron present and already eating. Not impressed with the dining area or the aroma. Food was not very good. Paid $2 extra for a tablespoon of faux guac with chips that were like biting into shower tiles. The fries were cold and damp. PASS read more

LA Cocina Restaurant - What $2 of guacamole gets you. The chips also cost extra - Mexican Near Me - Silver City, New Mexico

It was Sunday. The nearby brewery ran out of food. The whole town of restaurants and bars and shops were CLOSED....except this lil family run Mexican place. Traditional but tasty foods. Staff was overwhelmed but still friendly and did the job right. Cheap. No alcohol. I had a really great green chili stew with beef not pork. Wife had the pork taco asada which were great too. A huge plate of 4. Son had a giant chicken chimichanga with cheese on it. Pretty eh on that one but huge value. He could not finish. It is near the university and very humble in its building and decor. Seriously good and life saver when the town shut down but for chains. read more

This is the most amazing restaurant in downtown silver city by FAR the service is amazing I met the nicest young man by the name of Avery I think the food was amazing I've never had better and the waitress was the sweetest lady ever 10/10 would recommend and just the ambiance in general was amazing everyone seemed like a family! read more

We eat here every time we visit Silver City. It's a great place to satisfy our craving for NM red or green chile which isn't easily available where we live. It's casual, has plenty of choices, and the food is always yummy. read more

We picked up dinner from here while staying in Silver City for a night. They're located just below the college on college drive not too far from broadway. The food is very good and service was great. They have a dining room separate from a burrito shop style area, making it convenient for pickup and quick orders. The smothered chimichanga was topped with green or red Chile and nacho cheese, filled nicely with our choice of beans and puerco asada. The gorditas were good but they used a thinner tortilla pocket that I'm not used to. Portion sizes were plenty and I'd agree that the value was there. read more

Nearly the best Mexican food in Silver City. We ate there a couple of days ago and were a little disappointed, but they can't be perfect every day. read more

Best Burgers in town!! Quick and friendly service. Love their gorditos and enchiladas too!

Great Service! Sat down and enjoyed the salsa and chips. We Ordered: Tamale plate (4 Stars) Chicken Chimichangas Ala Carte (3 Stars) Ground beef taco Ala Carte (4 Stars) Bean & Cheese Gordita (3 Stars) Chili Relleno Ala Carte smothered w/ green & red chile (5 Stars) Ice Tea served in a large glass (5 Stars) The good: Seated quickly, pleasant staff, good food. Fast tea, salsa & chip refills. Great menu with a lot of options. Clean dining room, clean restroom. The bad: It was soooooo frickin' cold in there. The AC worked too well. I suggest instead of commiserating with the customers and saying "yeah, I know it's cold". How about actually doing something about it like turn up the thermostat, or turn down the overhead fans? Good experience overall. read more

Our group of 13 came in to La Cocina a few days ago (we had called ahead). We were seated promptly and our orders for drinks and food came out very quickly. The food was absolutely delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal; there was not a single complaint on anything. The next time we come to Silver City we will definitely stop here. read more

Food was great service was excellent! I had the green chile cheese burger with onion rings, and my wife had the combo plate which was also great We'll definitely go back, the young lady that took care of us was excellent I didn't get her name but she was very helpful I just feel bad because I feel she deserved a bigger tip .... This is my personal favorite for Mexican food. They make the best carne asado, puerco asado or pollo asado tacos in town, and my friends really like their combination plates. The atmosphere is casual and prices are mid-range. Avoid Sundays as they are often very crowded. It is a popular place with the locals. read more

Always consistent! The food continues to be good. It does not waiver in quality or taste!

We were starving after a couple nights of field work and looking forward to a good New Mexican breakfast, but didn't find it here. The green chile was loaded with meat but very little chile. Couldn't taste any chile with the eggs, so very little taste to the meal. Nice people though and thankful they were open on a Sunday! read more

I'll say something positive: the iced tea is very good and you get a huge tall glass. Cheap meal, large portions. Ordered the #8 - two chile rellenos and two roast beef tacos. The rellenos had a really thin batter and the oil needed changing in the fryer. The tacos tasted just like - roast beef. No spice, no flavor, just plain old roast chuck. We were a party of eleven, and pretty much nobody cared for their food except the guy that ordered the triple burger - he said it was a bargain. Everyone complained about the taste of the grease from the fryer - Ack! My companion ordered posole, and she said it had little flavor and few vegetables (radishes, green onion, etc.) just hominy; also no rich red broth, kinda pale. I don't go to Silver city often, but there's gotta be better alternatives. read more

Good food and vibes. Chips and salsa were good, salsa was night and spicy. I got the shrimp tacos and they were good, I recommend getting the charro beans too. read more

I highly recommend anywhere else on days of the week that alternatives are open. On days where there isn't much else, consider cooking or commuting further... The restaurant itself is relatively small and nestled near the shops and old town of Silver City. The service was fine, although it took quite a while to be checked on again once we received our food. The chips and "salsa" were more like chips and tomato paste. My order (Combo #1) was overall pretty poor; it included a pork tamale, cheese enchilada, taco (choice of meat), and rice and beans. While the quantity of food at only $13 seems like a pretty good deal, only the tacos were worth their while. I'd hardly call the tamale a tamale, the enchilada was a tortilla which may have been dusted with cheese, and the rice was clumped into balls and cubes. On top of that, the drinks (a can of coke and a lemonade) tacked on $4-5 each. read more

Low quality food overall. Some ok disges but not the burgers for sure. Nice servers. Horrible owner.

We live in Silver City. La Cocina is our go to Mexican food restaurant. The food is excellent and the staff is quite friendly. Try it. You won't be disappointed. It is family owned so you get a personal experience that is in line with our friendly town. read more

The price of the same dish radically changed a week later $5. I asked that the burrito be placed on the plate "open-face." The first time, under $10, and the second time $15. I made my case to be charged the original price and as the woman had only been there two weeks, she made crazy excuses that made me leave to never return. read more

Normally this place has maybe middle of the road food worthy of a 3/5 or a 4/5 but last night with what my family received as take out I struggle to give it even a 2/5. This well could be a off night but ended up throwing 3/4 of my food out the back door because of how bad it was. Had three dish's ordered for take out and mine was a green chili cheese fries with ground beef added. The fries used where beyond soggy and seemed if they where under fried. Like putting them in lower temp oil and cooking them for the same ammount of time so they are floppy and partly chewy in a off putting manner. The biggest let down was having to take a spoon as soon as I opened the dish and spoon OFF the grease. There was a good 5 or 6 LARGE spoonfuls of grease sitting around the edge of the container. It's almost like they never bothered to drain any thing and tossed it in the pile. I spooned the oil out and started eating it then sat my plate down to grab a drink. By the time I returned there was even more grease settling down. After spooning another 4 spoonfuls I finally just decided to toss it out. We had that "dinner" pretty late last night but it's almost noon the following day and I still have this oil after taste even after having Dr Pepper and water to try and wash it away. More then likely will not return for a long stent of time due to this. read more
