The Chile relleno were different than the usual, Different from any chili relleno I ever had before. The Anaheim chile was undercooked in my opinion and the cheese was on top rather the usual in the middle. The taquitos were described as meh. Beans and rice were ok. Tried this location as it was close to our driving route. However, we were dissatisfied as the taste fell flat especially for the prices (which seemed a high compared to other places in the area). We ordered the tacos and Gorditas which were good but not great. We had ordered items to go which they had forgot about, but still tried to charge us for. The chips and salsa were ok as well. We visited Silver City on a Sunday and Monday. Very little was open. La Cocina was one of them. This place is not as nice as some of the local neighborhood taco shops i have eaten at in TJ. Food was ok, service was not good. I will say, if you like spice, maybe you will like La Cocina a little better. The green sauce enchilada had good flavor but was VERY spicy. They have two levels, Very Spicy and Ver, Very Spicy. I am not a fan of that. Let me put it this way, locals said order the hamburger. Why would i go to a Mexican restaurant for a hamburger. For such a small and simple cafe, La Cocina really has an incredible menu with every conceivable combination of enchiladas, chimichangas, tacos, and burritos imaginable. I really enjoyed the 'enchilada-style' chicken chimichanga smothered in green chili sauce and cheese. The chimichanga is packed with tender white chicken meat. I'm glad I opted for simply the chimichanga and not the complete meal with beans and rice because there is no way I could eat that much good food! I loved their salsa--good amount of heat and flavor! The portions are generous. My uncle ordered two burritos since given the low price he thought they may be small (as in Golden Pride size) but they were huge so he had a full meal for the next day! It was Sunday. The nearby brewery ran out of food. The whole town of restaurants and bars and shops were CLOSED....except this lil family run Mexican place. Traditional but tasty foods. Staff was overwhelmed but still friendly and did the job right. Cheap. No alcohol. I had a really great green chili stew with beef not pork. Wife had the pork taco asada which were great too. A huge plate of 4. Son had a giant chicken chimichanga with cheese on it. Pretty eh on that one but huge value. He could not finish. It is near the university and very humble in its building and decor. Seriously good and life saver when the town shut down but for chains. read more

This is my personal favorite for Mexican food. They make the best carne asado, puerco asado or pollo asado tacos in town, and my friends really like their combination plates. We picked up dinner from here while staying in Silver City for a night. They're located just below the college on college drive not too far from broadway. The food is very good and service was great. They have a dining room separate from a burrito shop style area, making it convenient for pickup and quick orders. The smothered chimichanga was topped with green or red Chile and nacho cheese, filled nicely with our choice of beans and puerco asada. The gorditas were good but they used a thinner tortilla pocket that I'm not used to. Portion sizes were plenty and I'd agree that the value was there. read more

I highly recommend anywhere else on days of the week that alternatives are open. On days where there isn't much else, consider cooking or commuting further... The restaurant itself is relatively small and nestled near the shops and old town of Silver City. The service was fine, although it took quite a while to be checked on again once we received our food. The chips and "salsa" were more like chips and tomato paste. My order (Combo #1) was overall pretty poor; it included a pork tamale, cheese enchilada, taco (choice of meat), and rice and beans. While the quantity of food at only $13 seems like a pretty good deal, only the tacos were worth their while. I'd hardly call the tamale a tamale, the enchilada was a tortilla which may have been dusted with cheese, and the rice was clumped into balls and cubes. I'll say something positive: the iced tea is very good and you get a huge tall glass. Cheap meal, large portions. Ordered the #8 - two chile rellenos and two roast beef tacos. The rellenos had a really thin batter and the oil needed changing in the fryer. The tacos tasted just like - roast beef. No spice, no flavor, just plain old roast chuck. We were a party of eleven, and pretty much nobody cared for their food except the guy that ordered the triple burger - he said it was a bargain. Everyone complained about the taste of the grease from the fryer - Ack! My companion ordered posole, and she said it had little flavor and few vegetables (radishes, green onion, etc.) just hominy; also no rich red broth, kinda pale. I don't go to Silver city often, but there's gotta be better alternatives. read more

Normally this place has maybe middle of the road food worthy of a 3/5 or a 4/5 but last night with what my family received as take out I struggle to give it even a 2/5. This well could be a off night but ended up throwing 3/4 of my food out the back door because of how bad it was. Had three dish's ordered for take out and mine was a green chili cheese fries with ground beef added. The fries used where beyond soggy and seemed if they where under fried. Like putting them in lower temp oil and cooking them for the same ammount of time so they are floppy and partly chewy in a off putting manner. The biggest let down was having to take a spoon as soon as I opened the dish and spoon OFF the grease. There was a good 5 or 6 LARGE spoonfuls of grease sitting around the edge of the container. It's almost like they never bothered to drain any thing and tossed it in the pile. I spooned the oil out and started eating it then sat my plate down to grab a drink. By the time I returned there was even more grease settling down. After spooning another 4 spoonfuls I finally just decided to toss it out. We had that "dinner" pretty late last night but it's almost noon the following day and I still have this oil after taste even after having Dr Pepper and water to try and wash it away. More then likely will not return for a long stent of time due to this. read more

However, I am a business owner a few blocks down from this business and am so tired of their teenage kids, who work there, parking their trucks on the road and blasting their music as loud as they can. This disrupts my business, as well as I'm sure every other business on the road.surely this is happening in the restaurant as well and I'm not sure why the owner doesn't do anything about it. However, I am a business owner 2 blocks from this establishment and am beyond frustrated with the restaurant employees parking on College Ave and blasting their music, windows open and full base. My first and second story windows rattle so bad that they are close to breaking. Not to mention I cannot hear my clients or vendors in person or on the phone.
