A really decent meal with a cozy atmosphere. The waiter was so nice. He humored me with all my…read morequestions. So---5 starts for him and his service.
Now I'm pretty much a solid vegetarian 99% of the time. However, when traveling----if I find something, out of the ordinary on a menu----I'll almost always try it. I'm a sucker for trying foods that most people shy away from if not, are repulsed by. And honestly, if I'm going to eat a meat product, I'd rather it be an organ of something because it's going to have hella amounts of B12 in it and I can appreciate that.
So just imagine my delight when I saw---kidneys ( Rognons de Veaux) in a port sauce with mushrooms on the menu. I immediately knew what I wanted to try. My sister decided to go with a trout dish.
I have to say---I really liked my dish. It absolutely tasted like kidney, lol. And the sauce was really lovely. You have an option of ordering it with mustard or port sauce. Trust me---go for the port. The mushrooms were a really great compliment to the dish. The kidney was served a little rare ( as it should be) ....and it was really lovely.
My sister's trout wasn't spectacular. It just tasted like.....fish. Nothing remarkable. No great sauce or anything. She basically got a whole trout served to her. She actually had me cut the head off of it and put it on my plate because she didn't want to be staring her meal in the eyes. :) I'm happy to oblige for a sibling. So, I got to stare her fish in the eyes for the duration of my meal. She basically spent her meal "fishing" out a million fish bones for her entire meal. C'est la vie.
We finished our meal with a tiramisu. It was alright. Nothing to phone home about.
So all in all, the meal was pretty ok. It's a really great location an keeps a good crowd, so it's good for people watching.
