Most of my stay in Aix-en-Provence I was sick with a severe case of food poisoning. It lasted about 10 days before I was finally able to get a doctor to prescribe an antibiotic. Naruto was there because they make an excellent ramen. I highly recommend ordering any of them. They are on the mark authentic to what you can get in Japan. While I wasn't able to try any of their other dishes, I highly suspect they are on par with their ramen as Naruto is always packed. From the moment they open, all the tables are filled with customers. It doesn't matter what day of the week nor time of day. They are busy, busy, busy. The owner is a fun character, who enjoys being silly. He clearly takes preparing his meals seriously though. Check out his business cards. They will make you smile. He's something of a local celebrity. And you can see this is true fore he has that certain charisma that draws you into his world.

The fried rice included in the combo was like left-over from yesterday. The service was awful too. One waiter had nothing but kept chatting with customers, while we were waiting forever for ordering. Then when the food was ready, no any waiter served the drinks we ordered from the very beginning till we told them again after the food was already on the table for several minutes. We also ordered Ninja Sushi, which was mainly just some cheap shrimps on top of rice rolls and priced like 15 Euros at least. Upon entering, it is a nice place, kinda like a eurasian fusion feel. We had first dinner seating so it was kind of empty. I ordered a dinner plate with salmon nigiri, salmon & avocado maki, these yakiniku sticks with strips of been wrapped around cheese (French accent to a Japanese meal), egg plant appetizer (was REALLY good), miso soup, bowl of white rice, along with a bit of seaweed salad. It was really good! My wife had udon with tempura. The curious thing was that there was no dipping sauce for the tempura unlike where you would find almost everywhere else (maybe a French thing? I dunno)... and I've eaten Japanese foods in different 'States, Japan, Singapore ... My son had a sashimi dinner and he said that it was really good. I managed to take a few photos, then the worker and manager came over to us to say that picture taking was not allowed. Oh well ... kinda deflated the experience a bit. Today's soup of the day was "curry soup," which was interesting, since Japanese curry isn't soup. It was basically watered down curry with lots of vegetables. The rice ball had the option of fish, vegetable, and maybe a meat? The rice had seasoning on it. (It was cold when I got it, so I dunked the rice into the "curry soup" to make it into curry.) The seasonal salad was very interesting as well. I had to keep on looking down at the salad as I ate it, because it didn't taste at all like what I expected. Takoyaki was what you'd expect from takoyaki. Very wet inside though, so if you aren't a fan of wet batter texture, is skip it. We also ordered ramen, which wasn't on the menu. It was also interesting, because it looked like shoyu ramen, but it had a very deep flavor. And the pork didn't seem like chashu. Overall, I accept the tastes as a "spin" on Japanese food that I've grown up with, and enjoyed them.
