Danville has too many Mexican restaurants to keep track of, but El Toro is definitely one of the…read morebetter stops, and one of the more accessible locations. Generally speaking, El Toro you your no nonsense Mexican spot with plenty of options, big portions and tasty food. The ambiance here is vibrant, but accommodating and the service is attentive and friendly. For me, one option always catches my eye and that is the Acapulco Special. Arroz con pollo always is a hit for me, so why not make it even better? The Acapulco special has chicken, steak AND shrimp on top of rice, covered in cheese sauce. It doesn't get better than that. Not only are the meats a plenty in this dish, but everything about it tastes great. The meats have good flavor and get cooked well, the salad is refreshing, and you can easily make a few tacos with the provided tortillas. The cheese sauce is creamy and rich, but not too heavy so that you feel terrible after. This is the dish for sure. Overall, solid Mexican spot that will come through for you in the end. Ok, if you are looking for one of those spit polished, heavily themed Mexican restaurants ... this…read moreisn't it. If you are looking for something more like a family restaurant, far removed from the tourist areas in almost any Mexican city or town, then you have found the right place. The place is clean. The chairs, tables and booths mismatched and well used but serviceable. The menus photocopied. The lighting is a little harsh. There's the compulsory photo of the Pope and the Madonna hanging in the corner. All of this and great food combine to make this my go to place for authentic Mexican cooking. I just sat down for a carry it dinner of 3 tacos pastor ($7.95 - Mexican style with cilantro, onion and tomato, thank you) some very good rice and the best beans I have had since I moved here from Chicago in 2005. I wish I could have shown you but I thought about pictures after I ate ... the smell was driving me wild! If your looking for real, authentic, family cooked food ... Get off of I-65 at exit 215, drive about 3 miles East to the stop sign, turn left and look for the orange building on the right. You won't be sorry. I'm thinking about going back again tomorrow!
