When I went to this stand, there were a bunch of locals and myself - very friendly & talkative locals lol. Chez Magali is the red stand between the two options. Created in the 1930s, L'Estaque district's famous stretched doughnuts have such a unique look to them, often compared to churros which I don't understand because they look so different. It's even said - don't tell an Estacan that Chichi Frégi are like churros! :P Did I mention they're vegan?! This unique pastry is thick & fluffy, almost as if pumped with air to give a light delicious flavor. You can have it plain, with sugar or even with chantilly whipped cream. Chichi Fregis is Marseille's original street food. It is a long deep-fried dough fritter. Think of it as a fat beignet loaf/baguette. It's hot and the sugar coating will be all over your mouth, hands, and clothes. With the wind whipping from the ocean, your hair will be flying but your taste buds will be flying even higher once you bit into a Chichi Fregis.
