It was enjoyable to explore on my own and see how perfume and scents have evolved, with many beautiful pieces and artworks that I easily lost track of time. I wish there had been more opportunities to smell -- although maybe not all of the scents were pleasant -- of the original fragrances you hear about during the tour, but I enjoyed trying the different perfumes in the shop. The sales clerks' high-pressure tactics somewhat lessened the relaxed feeling, but overall, I really liked it, and I did purchase a few delightful perfumes. I bought Ile Damour and Melodie because, in my opinion, they smelled classically French.

This is by far one of the most unique museums I've been to…read more Most are history or art of the region, this one was dedicated to perfume and beauty. It was pretty cool to walk around and see the displays with vintage perfume bottles and vessels. At the end of the tour (which was free) you get dumped into a gift shop (go figure). The cool thing about the gift shop is the build your own perfume section. This was a nice inexpensive way to spend part of the afternoon in Paris.

The museum was not too busy and was nicely organized to really enjoy the opulence of another age. Classified as a heritage site, the museum houses restored 18th century apartments. From the ceiling to the floors, every room oozes beauty. (Don't get me started on some of the views--they're just gorgeous.) Your visit is self-guided thanks to a very neat headset that not only provides narration but also tracks your location, ensuring that the audio matches where you are. It was very interesting and informative. Unfortunately, my battery died partway through my tour, but I enjoyed looking at everything anyway. The gift shop is pretty sweet, too!

I had wanted to see the opera house for about 15 years and did not have a chance-we were very happy with our experience! The opera house is located at Place de l'Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris and the tour entrance is in the back side of the building. There are a variety of tours but we selected a guided tour so there could be allot of interaction and added information - it was well worth it! Tours are available from It is generally open from 10 am to 5 pm (last admission one hour before closing), though the auditorium may be closed unpredictably due to rehearsals. We were on a guided tour and they allowed us in during one of the rehearsals although we could not speak. Having visited many opera houses in the past including London, Vienna, Prague, etc. this one was very impressive. The Grand Staircase, museum, foyer, and addition displays are amazing. Well worth the visit!

Learned about this museum from Downie's exhaustive book on some serious Paris history. And then, almost done with Kevin Kwan's book #2, it just got an honorable mention as some girls in the book went to visit! The house that was transformed on the upper two levels to Moreau's very own studio, it was, to my delight, filled with art students deep in study and practice when I came by. The spiral staircase up to the top room is stunning, has a great view, and leads to a full hardwood to ceiling exhibit of so many various pieces! It takes one's breath away. Incredible amount of works that are all exhibited here. I'm not sure that I am a fan of his art, even those I spied at the Louvre. Any trompe l'oeil? Well, not exactly... But it's wonderful to have walked the 9th, and to have seen firsthand the artist's atelier and humble home. History truly is amazing.
