Our motel did not serve breakfast so we were referred to Le Heron. The breakfast menu is extensive, but the preparation is not even. Service was good as was the coffee. Eggs are very firm inside regardless of how they were ordered. Scrambled eggs show white and yellow streaks and are heavy in texture. Our server told us the restaurant has been sold and will close for the season this weekend. The new owners plan to make many changes. If you need breakfast after this week, this is NOT the spot. read more

The Heron is a quaint little diner style restaurant with a great view of the Bay de Chaleur. It also doubles as the bus stop for Carelton which gives it a great small town feel. I ate 3 meals here while in Carelton (Sur Mer) for 2 days. They consisted of one dinner and two breakfast meals. For my dinner I had to try a lobster club sandwich. I've never had a lobster club before so I had to see what all the rave was about. It's interesting as it is like a normal club but with egg and lobster! Super delish! For the breakfast's, one day I had an Eggs Benedict special that came with home fries and two slices of orange with toast and coffee and the other day I had two eggs, bacon home fries with toast and coffee. Food was good quality and the service was nice and quick. The food served it's purpose. Portions were not gigantic but okay. In the morning you have the regulars sitting at the bar stools and the booths are a nice place to relax and enjoy breaky. it's really serene and peaceful to gaze out over the bay and see the sun waking up and the calm of the bay! read more

Do NOT go here. I'm actually impressed, this might be the worst breakfast I've ever had in Canada. Serve yourself, buffet style food sitting under heat lamps. Needless to say the food was atrocious. Adding insult to injury was the "browned water" which would be a better way of describing the liquid that was poured in to my coffee cup. All for $15 on top of that. At least it was fast! read more
