Casa Diego was full of Spanish families celebrating Semana Santa, not another foreign tourist in the bunch, which let us know we were in the right place. Their Salmorejo was garnished with tuna and ham (meats vary among sardines, anchovies, chorizo, tuna, shredded chicken, etc) in addition to the standard hard boiled egg. It tasted very fresh and homemade, especially compared to the one my husband had in Cordoba. Casa Diego's Salmorejo had layers of flavor and was very thoughtfully created. I had a salad dinner because I'd had too many meat dishes without roughage and my body needed greens. Unfortunately the salad was mostly iceberg which has very few nutrients, but I appreciated the vegetable intake of some kind. I tried my son's lagrimitas de pollo and patatas, both high quality and very good. Chicken fingers looked homemade, as did the potatoes. My husband got the swordfish, which he said was firm, with good flavor and a a good hint of char. The olive oil complemented the taste. For dessert, my son finally got to try the Tarta de Abuela, which we'd been looking for on every dessert menu across Spain. It too tasted homemade though (per traditional recipe) constructed of cookies and candy elements. It's extremely sweet but definitely worth trying at least once, and delicious to kids! My husband had the Bienmesabe that is specific to Antequera. There are apparently a number of different Bienmesabe dessert recipes (and in Cádiz, Bienmesabe is a tapa of marinated fried fish) but the Antequera version is their own, and various bakeries and restaurants put their own panache into the local sugar/almond/cinnamon/pastry recipe. Casa Diego's Bienmesabe was simple and complex at once, balancing citrus with sweet almond paste, and using pastry to elevate cinnamon and sugar into gourmet delights. The bill was very reasonable especially considering the food quality. Our server was really sweet and helpful. As we finished paying, he let us know the Semana Santa parade was coming down the street. Perfect timing, the float and band passed just as we went out the door. Great experience and will love to return!

They have an English menu and so many choices that our bartender made some recommendations for us. We started with their pumpkin soup as well as their Maimones, which is a garlic and onion soup. Essentially French onion without the cheese. Both delicious. Then we had cucurucho (fried fish), black pudding mollete, spinach and pine nut croquettes, patatas payoyas (goat cheese creamed over potatoes and for the grand finale the peloncilla. It was all delicious, but the peloncilla, roasted pork in butter served on garlic toast, was one of the best things we've had on our trip. A nice man, maybe an owner or manager, came out and told us about his family history on the peloncilla and the maimones and then proceeded to give us recipe cards printed up for both. He and our bartender were so friendly and welcoming. This is the first choice that populates on yelp and for that we are extremely grateful. The perfect tapas for us in Antequera. Also, all of that and 4 glasses of wine for $35 euros...super value. We loved everything and highly recommend.

We randomly found this place after roaming around the town and on our way out to another place…read more Hungry and thirsty, we decided to have a quick bite here, an early lunch. We ambled in and looked at the tapas selection on display and immediately ordered 3 of the plates, x 3, for the three of us. They came out pretty fast and as we were waiting for them, I noticed a plate of fried eggplant drizzled with honey (pr molasses) on the menu. My friend had been saying for a few days it was a specialty of Andalusia, and there it was. So we added that to the order. Our waiter was friendly, from Uruguay, and he conversed a bit with my friend from Argentina. Our drinks came out, just two liter bottles of water, and then our tapas. We had artichoke hearts, a tuna and tomato dip and an octopus and potato dish. And the berenjenas con miel (the eggplant). All were excellent, completely hitting the spot, but the crown probably went to the berenjenas. I added a bit more salt to mine to accentuate the contrast of sweet and crispy, but was great without. Then we had 3 espressos and 2 desserts, a spanish style cheesecake and a 3 chocolate cake. We had looked at the tapas menu and figured without thinking much about it we'd be paying about $55 euros total. When the bill came we were shocked! We called over the waiter and asked him if a mistake was made. No, it was correct. We had been looking at the prices on the menu for a full sized dish, not the tapas sized ones we had, to accompany a drink. The total - $17.5 euros. For everything! Unbelievable. We were staggered. Even my friend who lives there couldn't believe it. Granted we did not order alcohol, for which they charge more, but that is also cheap in Spain and might have added only 50% more to the bill at most if we had had 2 beers each. So, to be clear, the tapas cost .50 euros each. That is all. Our 2 desserts cost more than the food. And in Spain, tip and tax is included in the total. So you don't have to add anything. I don't know how a joint survives on prices like that, but that's Spain. We left some more euros to the total for a tip regardless and told them we'd be back and we'd tell our friends. So there, go!
