First experience having a facial and it was AMAZING! The booking process was super easy, I messaged them on Instagram (I was referred by a friend), and I got an appointment within 2 weeks. I received a confirmation email, and a COVID-19 questionnaire via email as well. Lots of parking too, it's located in a little plaza in Richmond. I didn't know what to expect since it was my very first time getting a facial, and I was immediately impressed by the interior/decor at the front desk reception area when I walked in. It's very modern/earthy/chic (eg. white walls, natural plants)- and definitely feels very calming and relaxing. I booked my appointment with Lisa Liang for a La Cachette Signature Facial, and she was very sweet and patient as she walked me through what to expect. Bonus: The washroom are gorgeously decorated as well, and very very clean. The facial lasts a full 1 hour and 15mins or so. The rooms have soft ambient music playing, and the heavy sheets are super super comfortable - you could easily take a nap! I'm not well versed in their products, but various cleansers, exfoliant and peels are gently massaged into my face. Mines ended with a cold jelly mask thing. They use a lot of G.M. Collin skincare products (I also got 2 samples on my way out). My favourite part was starting and ending with a deep breathing exercise with essential oils, and also a little face/head massage at the end. The La Cachette Signature Facial regular price is $135, but I went for a limited time 50% off promo. Overall, it was a very pleasant & relaxing experience. It was my second time at La Cachette and it was THE most terrible spa experience I've ever had in my entire life. I am not exaggerating -- I used to go for facials in other spas every other month and the staff in other spas were polite but the staff at La Cachette was downright rude and condescending. I had to bring my 5 year old son with me to my appointment a couple of days ago because our nanny had a miscarriage the night before, was rushed to the hospital, so she had to take the next day off to rest. When we arrived at La Cachette, the Asian lady (with eyelashes tattoos on her right arm) -- I believe her name was Celise Lee -- said they don't allow visitors. Which is fine by me, but do I just abandon my appointment or leave my son? She called her boss to ask for permission if it's okay for me to push through with my appointment even though I brought my son in with me. They allowed me to proceed with my appointment. But she also required my 5 year old to muzzle up. (Our BC government merely encourages children between 2 and 12 years old to wear masks. Note the word used was "encouraged," not "required.") I told Celise that but she insisted that "He needs to wear a mask if he will stay here" implying that either I take it or leave it. At this point i was already getting annoyed at her for being condescending. I contemplated on giving up my appointment but then they'd charge me 100% cancellation, and I took that afternoon off and looking forward to destressing. So we masked up and we went in the room. Celise was yammering about how my son needs to stay in one corner, can't play, can't move around, can't eat. Because my son asked earlier if he could have his snack, or if he can play in the corner. All we heard are hard no's from her. I can understand that my son can't play on the floor but he just came from school and he was hungry... But wasn't allowed to EAT while he waits for me? Celise is really trying to be authoritarian and restricting my son from his basic needs was really getting on my nerves. The facial started, she wore her rubber gloves and tugged my hair really hard. The first time she did that I thought that must have been an accident so I kept quiet, but the second time she pulled me hair I screamed "Ouch!" After the cleanser was put on, she used a hot towel and rubbed my face aggressively including my eyelids and when I told her not to touch my eyes -- I had my eyes lasered years ago and I can feel the lenses shifting after some pressure is put on my eyelids during some of my previous facials in other spas and they were courteous enough to avoid that area -- the second time she pushed her entire weight down on my face, she just scoffed and said, "Those weren't your eyeballs." WTF? First of all, those aren't YOUR eyes that are being put weight on, those are mine, and so how did you know which body part you were putting pressure on? How was she 100% sure that those weren't eyelids/eyes/eyeballs that she was putting weight on? A simple, "Okay, we'll avoid that area" would've sufficed. But no, she had the GALL to give a retort by saying that those weren't my eyeballs. Everything was just going downhill. My last straw was when I asked my son what he was doing because I can't see him from where I was lying down. He said he's just sitting in a corner doing nothing. I asked him if he wanted to move a few inches towards me so that we can hold hands instead of him just watching me doing nothing -- and for the next 1 hour for that matter. He moved closer to me for just 1 meter, and we held hands. It's the least I could do for my son who wasn't doing anything and was just expected to stare at us for the entire 1 hour. Celise told us that he should just stay put in his corner. That's when I fucking flipped. I had to leave that room. Celise was rude, condescending, and just plain toxic to be around. As I was getting dressed, she was still defending herself saying that we're in the midst of a pandemic and everyone including their staff should be protected. I understand that. But at what expense? She can boss me around but not letting my son eat? Not allowing him to move even just 1 meter towards me? Expecting a FIVE YEAR OLD to be some sort of robot just sit and wait in a corner for ONE HOUR? That's too much. She's crazy expecting a child to be subjected to these unreasonable rules that people just made up. When I left, they still charged me $145 for that very tense and stressful situation they put me up in. read more

Caroline, the esthetician, studied at Blanche Macdonald and is very knowledgeable and passionate about skin care and waxing. I usually get my waxing done in Vancouver as there are more reviews about salons in Vancouver than in Richmond. After reading some of the Yelp reviews for La Cachette Spa, I decided to give them a try. Most salons and spas only offer soft or strip wax, but Caroline uses a combination of both. Hard wax is used on more sensitive areas such as the face, underarm, and bikini area, and strip wax is used on arms, legs, and other larger areas. She also doesn't double dip. Caroline was very friendly and made my appointment as comfortable and painless as possible. The pricing for waxing is reasonable plus it's currently an additional 10% off on Wednesdays. I booked my first appointment with La Cachette because of their January special: 1 hour massage with a 20 minute tarot card reading. Yes, yes, thank you. Back off from the tarot card mocking. If you're not a tarot card person (it was my first reading and it helped me make some decisions I was teetering on), you need to go just for the massage. Goddamn. Seriously, goddamn. The bed was warm and there were some parts of the massage that hurt like a sonofabitch but Dennis worked out all the weird kinks in my calves and the continuous kinks in my neck. Thanks, office job! I love you but my neck and shoulders don't love you! It was such a friendly atmosphere, and it's perfect because it's where I go to get my hair cut. Also, they have specials for during the week (Waxing Wednesday, Massage Monday, you get what I'm saying). The best part? They use hard wax for bikini/Brazilian waxes. This means I don't have to make my bi-monthly trek to Yaletown for intimate grooming! For those who are wax newbies, I've been waxing since I was 16. I have been going here for my regular waxing for a few years now, and have also had a facial here. Every time I'm amazed! Caroline uses hard wax for your face and other sensitive areas, which is initially why I started going to her. I have sensitive skin and my skin doesn't react nearly as much as it did with soft wax. She does a great job on my eyebrows and it's so quick and painless! The facial with her was heavenly! I almost fell asleep! This spa is located inside of Richard Ego Hair Salon in Richmond, right across from Lansdowne Centre (south side). There should really be a sign for this place! I only knew it was inside the salon because I had done some online research beforehand. I had a Social Shopper voucher for a 50 minute reflexology foot massage and 30 minute introductory facial. First of all, everyone in the salon and spa is super friendly! Maybe I caught them all on a good day but there were smiles all around. The spa atmosphere was lovely, dimly lit and cozy looking. The only thing I didn't like about the setting was that the reflexology massage was given in lounge chairs that were out in the open (meaning, weren't in private massage rooms). Reflexology doesn't require any clothing removal but it was slightly distracting because you could hear the blow dryers and chatter in the hair salon and occasionally the other staff members would walk by. Dennis is the masseuse who does the reflexology massages here, as well as many other massages that incorporate Asian techniques and philosophy. The massage was great; not painful at all (I always hear some people complaining about how reflexology hurts) and very soothing. It started with a short neck and shoulder massage while I soaked my feet in warm water and ended with my feet cocooned in hot towels. I really like the massage cream he used; most massage places still use gel/oil which creates less friction and therefore, less heat. I thought one of the reasons it felt so nice was that there was always warmth. My facial with Caroline (who is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet) was short but sweet. She did an analysis of my skin after reading my self-report. What was nice about this facial was that it included cleansing and moisturizing of the neck/collarbone area as well as the face. She also wore gloves the entire time which is a nice hygienic touch. What I loved most about Caroline was that she didn't try to push the products; she addressed my skin concerns with remedies that had nothing to do with buying tons of product. Although I really did enjoy the line she used (YonKa) which uses blends of essential oils. They just smelled so good and natural! The only downside was that the room was a bit chilly (the other facials/massages I've had were in a heated massage bed). They do do monthly specials so I'm going to splurge on another massage soon! Caroline is very nice and knowledgeable, and has a professional demeanor. But to be honest, I didn't really like how she had gloves on when she was doing my facial. It felt weird on my face and too medical so I felt a little uncomfortable. I prefer facials where I can feel the Esthetician's smooth hands on my face. She did talk a lot about the products after so just know there will be a sales pitch after. I know most people gave 5 stars, but it wasn't really for me. It is tucked away inside a hair salon, that's it's right across the street from Lansdowne mall so easy access. I've never gotten waxed before going to Caroline but I can honestly say I feel like she is one of the best of this craft. This is my second time getting a Brazilian wax with Caroline and it definitely still hurts to get waxed but it's very bearable with Caroline's technique. I have been going to this spa for 2-3 years for eye brow waxing and love it! Caroline is friendly and professional and runs a clean and relaxing spa. She uses hard wax on eyebrows which doesn't hurt as much as traditional wax or threading. I loved my experience at La Cachette with Caroline. She was extremely knowledgeable with all things skin care. She even answered my random questions regarding SPF in products. She gives you a thorough consultation beforehand and asks what products you use, she even took the time to look up the products I was using to check the ingredients in them.
