We had been traveling for 6 days and were ready for a break from Belgian and Dutch food…read more I like Belgian and Dutch food, quite a lot, but one can only eat so many frites. This place was recommended by our server at our afternoon beer spot, and it turned out to be not just the best meal of the trip so far, but one of our favorite dining memories of recent years (okay, Covid may have limited those...). Now, this was definitely not traditional local food, but it was special enough to make our highlight list for sure. The first surprise was warm crusty bread with herbed butter and tomato tapenade delivered to the table. THAT hasn't happened anywhere in Belgium or Netherlands so far. I had the sirloin filet with grilled mushrooms (huge and skewered);which arrived with a wonderful brown glaze that was savory and sweet. And my medium rare steak was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend had the grilled salmon--thick, moist, and on a bed of lightly grilled onions. The second surprise was the choice of frites or baked potato. Choice! Potato please! They were small but fluffy and tender and amazing. The third surprise was the side salad that came unexpectedly--did we miss that on the menu? It was on a platter and was plenty for two: chopped greens with corn, beans, cucumber, tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate seeds (I think), in a sweet vinaigrette. I had two glasses of the Malbec and my boyfriend had a Jamieson ("on the rocks" meant with a bowl of ice with tongs served alongside!), and our bill was less than 70 Euro. We sat inside because it was a cool evening, but there is outdoor seating on the square and it looked like outdoor seating along the back canal side as well. Maybe not a place for kids, it definitely had an adult vibe. Service was wonderful! Highly recommend!!

You will feel welcomed the moment you step in no matter who you are because it's like a meeting point where you can meet and interact with people from all different backgrounds. They make sure their customers are respected and feel at home. Quite cool! They are famous for their spareribs with different flavors and I like the spicy one most. Compared to other places the quality of the meat is quite good and also it has an add-on advantage for people who look for halal meat because it's 100% halal. I would recommend them to work on the chicken sate dish because compared to other sates I've had, these were quite big chunks of chicken which affected the flavor. But certainly they still deserve a five star. Anyways, had some dessert as well and the red velvet cake with the latte macchiato was a perfect closing. I'd like to get back to try more on the menu like the mocktails!

The best thing I can say about this place is that the beer was pretty good. I'm Texan, so I know a…read morething or two about steaks, although I'm actually pretty lenient on steak places. This was bad. The steak itself was a terrible cut of meat (I'm a ribeye guy, so I know it's not supposed to be the most tender cut, but it's supposed to be marbleized and flavorful. Nope.), full of gristle and cut so haphazardly that it looked like an amoeba on my plate. It had almost no flavor (frozen for months?), and was just altogether a mess. I accompanied it with fries, thinking it would be like the French "steak frites", where you get very finely-cut, almost shoestring potatoes. Nope. These were thick and tasted like $0.99 frozen grocery-store fries. Again, no flavor. The white (wheat) beer was pretty good, though. That's the only thing keeping this from being a 1-star. Service was meh. They didn't seem to interested in me being there. All-in-all, a pretty dismal dining experience.

However I was walking back to my hotel one night and saw the steak that a diner was eating and I thought 'I gotta try that!' I ordered the 300gm rib eye medium rare (€23.50) and it was one of the best (if not the best) steaks I have ever had. If anyone has been to Rockpool in Australia this restaurant beats it hands down. Cooked to perfection, tender, seasoned perfectly. I always believe if the steak is good you don't need sauce with it. Call me a purist but this steak did not need sauce. I had a house wine with it which was also very good! It was a Tempranillo cab merlot. Not the cheapest restaurant but if you live in Perth Australia, you will agree that this is a good value meal! Service was a bit iffy at the start. It took the place about 3 mins for anyone to ask us if we needed a seat, but after that it was spot on :) The coke is expensive. €2.50 for 200ml. So just go ahead and order wine or beer! Five stars from me. I'm going back tonight!

You go down a set of stairs to get to it. From what I was told it's been here for a long time and the menu hasn't changed much either. I ordered the all you can eat ribs menu and I could not finish the first portion that arrived. Great tasting ribs and fries and it was yummy. The meat was tender and fell off the bone and the sauce was great. The wine list small but well priced and we enjoyed a great Syrah from Argentina.
