The servers were very patient in explaining what I could and could not order and afterwards I had *zero* issues in the digestive area. Regardless, the steaks were fantastic! We asked the waiter for the daily special and I can definitely recommend doing so, the specially dried meat has a lot of flavor and practically melted under the knife. The atmosphere is great, very relaxed, everybody is just having a good time. Good DJ with a good eye for the crowd. The price is just right, by Utrecht standard it's relatively cheap even.

OK, the atmosphere was OK, great DJ, staff was quick to serve beers and assorted liquid, but I was a bit disappointed with the food. The starter was OK with a nice plate of nachos, pulled pork, chicken wings and spare ribs, so I had high expectations of the main dish. I ordered a steak and expected a nice piece of meat. Unfortunately, I got a rather slim piece if meat. It tasted allright, but not genuinely steaky. I didn't think some additional salt'n peppa would really help, but I finished it with a small sense of disappointment. For a place which prides itself as a *the* place for steak and drinks its more drink than steak. Too bad. I'd recommend the Gauchos for a fine pice of steak in Utrecht. Desert was fine though.

The meals came with salads, chips and sauces on the side though I think the sauces came with the hot stone grill. The boys were all happy with their meat and I enjoyed my lasagne too. I did have the feeling that the broccoli in the lasagne might have been too old by the time it was put in the lasagne, but otherwise it was good. Dessert was good too and they have some nice options. I really enjoyed the chocolate truffle cake which had some (nice) bitterness from the dark chocolate, it really balanced out the sweetness. The lemon meringue pie however was also nice, but much too sweet for me. When I make anything lemon, you need the sweetness to balance out the twang from the lemon. This lemon pie needed some twang to balance out the sweetness and there wasn't any. Overall the meal was fine, I can see myself coming back here, but the thing that really made my night? The Den Draeck postcard that comes with your bill. We wrote one to the other girlfriend of the group who couldn't join us because of work and they mailed it free of charge. I love that!

It tasted like sweet and sour chicken. It wasn't bad, but I was specifically wanting something more traditional and Dutch. My wife's tuna sandwich was very good. I would definitely try this place again, but order something different for sure.

Four people ended up not being able to make it, and our party of 10 was seated together. The server was quite friendly and took drink orders immediately upon us being seated. He put those in while we looked at the menu. He answered questions about the menu and offered to refill our drinks. The spare ribs were excellent. The meat fell off the bone. The roasted vegetables were a nice mix and seasoned well. We were offered dessert when everyone was finished with dinner. We were well attended to without feeling rushed.

Not knowing this was required, we were initially pleased that he agreed to accommodate our party of three. Then, things changed once we were seated. As we were looking over the menu to decide what to eat, I started coughing due to a "throat tickle." When I took a sip of water from the bottle I had been carrying with me, a different employee told me that I couldn't drink from my water bottle in the restaurant. When I explained why, he continued to make his point. A waitress came to take our food order, but seemed unhappy with our choices. Noticing this, when she returned to take our beverage order, we decided on only water instead of the wine we had originally planned to order. Throughout the rest of our time at Castell, my friend noticed that this waitress repeatedly gave me looks of disapproval. The food was the only good part of our experience, and I would give it alone 5 stars. There is a traditional fire grill on which the meats are prepared. The filet mignon and lamb chops were perfectly seasoned and delicious! Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was uncomfortable and unpleasant. Our waitress gave me an annoyed look when I requested the check. My friend and I split the payment. As she was paying, the waitress mentioned the "skip the tip" option, so my friend obliged her. I went ahead and paid a tip as I felt her problem was more about her than me. Despite the authenticity and quality of the menu selections, I cannot recommend Castell based on how we were treated.

I posted a picture of different type of meats they offer. You just have ur coin face up green side if you are still hungry and turned over to red when your full. Beware the kitchen closes at 9pm (2100). They serve dessert for an extra 6 euro like cake and flan but we were too full to try any. They serve cooked pineapple after 9pm which was delicious. They have small cinnamon bananas and cheese bread that the server has to bring out but you have to request it usually unless ur server is more attentive then ours. Those tasted amazing too wish I had more cheese bread and cinnamon bananas. Did not have a gluten free menu but did have some but very few vegetarian options. The food itself was very great but the service was not so great. Since I was here on business and sitting by myself they stuck me in a corner and not all of the meat servers arrived to me nor did any server come up to me at any point to refill my water or ask if I needed anything. I don't think I even got to try all of the meat. Unfortunately I think I would come back again here due to the fact that it is very close to the Marriott Courtyard but that is the only redeeming quality for this restaurant.
