I walk past La Brioche probably at least twice a day, it makes me furious and it makes me laugh at the same time.
They primarily sell cakes, confectionary, biscuits and the like. The window is full of example cakes that you can order. It is this that both angers and amuses me. They put a Nemo style fish shaped cake in the window when it opened last year. It is still there and has gone through all number of colour changes as the sun and seasons affect the dye in the icing. It looks fairly putrid now. (see photo)
I have in fact gone in to tell them that I think the cake should be removed or replaced and they just reassured me that it was for visual purposes only an asked whether I wanted one made. This didn't really reassure me because I was already pretty certain that no one would dare touch the thing, and I didn't want one made as they cost £37!
The little cakes and confectionary they have inside are quite nice and have a bit of a Middle Eastern taste (very sweet, often dry or very sticky). They are also reasonably priced. They also do coffee and have wee tables and chairs if you'd like to sit in with a coffee and biscuit.
I like the idea of La Brioche, but the cakes on display really are a bit of a joke when they first go out they look great, but they are left in the window for months and months. I'm sure if they pulled their socks up this would be a fine place to order your special occasion cake from.
