Apricot ice cream and shell. Chocolate sauce, crisps and toasted almonds. Yummy!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here. Great food at a very reasonable price. We had the cod fish and lamb shoulder. Both excellent. The desserts were very special! Nice, if limited, wine list. But again very reasonably priced. On a quiet street in Aix. Indoor and outdoor seating. Servers were attentive except for when we asked for the bill. (I know, it's France and you have to get used to that...). This spot was recommended by our hotel. I am happy to pass along a strong recommendation.

One of the best meals I had this year. Seasonal compact menu which changes monthly. I started with a tender poached octopus and hummus. It was a bridge in Mediterranean and Asian spices. The dressing had a backdrop of soy and allowed flavors to intermingle. The parm risotto with diced squash was better than what I had in Italy. Creamy smooth texture without being heavy served with flaky cod. This is the first time I had cod served with skin. Now I know why. The first bite had some crispiness, but I opted to take it off as it got flabby. I also had an excellent bold full bodied Rhone red blend. Provencal at its best with fresh ingredients and excellent execution. A two person team, which opts to keep service to eight to ten tables, so making reservations is a good idea. Simple modern decor where the food takes center stage.

Guinea fowl stuffed with sausage. Root vegetables.

Superb! What a wonderful experience dining at La Bouchee. The staff was very helpful with gluten free options and the main courses and desserts were exceptional. It was an absolute delight.

Still think about that dinner! One of the best we had in France! The cod risotto was the best I ever had! The service was lovely! Next time we are close to AIX we will for sure return.

A simply outstanding meal from appetizers through chocolat fondant dessert. The restaurant may not win high marks for aesthetcs, though it does qualify as quaint and intimate. But, the food is the thing. My wife's veal was excellent as was my guinea fowl. The presentation was artful and the service was attentive. Highly recommend!

    Strawberry Mille feulle

Great food, wine, service! The servers speak English and are super helpful. Dinner food options were amazing, including starters and dessert. Great location and comfort level! Got the pork (loved) and my husband ordered the Veal. Portions were great, and dishes were seasoned perfectly. Dessert - strawberry Mille feulle- so yummy! 10/10 would return for food. We had a perfect date night!

Great food delivered with care. A cut above the already wonderful French restaurants.

Hummm, I think Yelp failed us with this recommendation but Trip Advisor has the most honest…read morereviews. We decided to try it out anyway. You can't go off "stars" alone. You have to read some of the reviews and see for yourself what the talk is about. We walked over and without reservation, scored a seat in the patio. Our 3 course meal was 20 euro but it none of the dishes were memorable. The dishes had a home cooked feeling, as if you could make the dishes at home, but nothing tasted out of this world. My bf got the short ribs and I got the baby chicken. Neither dishes were that great. Dessert was probably the best part of the meal. I probably would not return. For those who do not know the language: Owner speaks English. Waitresses know little English.

Not sure what "SCI Charlotte" refers to. This restaurant is called, variously,…read moreResto Charlotte, Chez Charlotte, or Restaurant Charlotte, at least online, as far as I can tell. On the other hand, there's no actual sign or label at the unassuming entrance on rue des Bernardines -- which could generously be called a side street but almost borders on an alley. This is NOT your typical restaurant in touristy Aix-en-provence. We sought it out because a website described it as the sort of place that the Aixoise would go. Well, that may be, and I certainly would not blame them, but there were plenty of tourists there when we dined on a weekday. (They basically open at 8pm, a more French dining time, while most establishments in the city accommodate touristic tastes and open as early as 7. In fact, our rather entertaining waiter seemed to speak French, English, and German fluently (to hear him banter with nearby tables) -- although he couldn't manage Mandarin. How to describe the food? "Unpretentious" would be accurate but maybe slightly misleading. It is a fantastic deal for a full meal compared to most sit-down restaurants in Aix. Expect well-executed, classic but un-fussy French cuisine in a pleasant outdoor courtyard. The vibe is fun, even on a less crowded evening. The two of us had the summer special gazpacho (amazing, and quite spicy) and the chicken liver pate (also very good) for entrees. Our main courses were a steak and a fillet of veal, both served with french-fry-like hash browns and haricot verts. A plum clafoutis and a nicely caramelly tarte tatin rounded out this meal -- very traditional bistro fare. (Both desserts were tasty, without being mind blowingly good or especially original.) At 40 Euros (tax + tip included, of course) for two people, including one glass of house red and one coffee, I think Chez Charlotte's menu might be the best deal in Aix.

We stumbled upon Chez Nine after walking and enjoying the ambience of old town Aix, and we were grateful to be seated without a reservation. We ordered an aperitif (which we unfortunately did not receive, hence the 4 star rating) and received a complimentary sardine spread and small crackers. Tasty. We ordered a nice bottle of blended red that was recommended by the owner. My fiancé ordered the chèvre ravioli which was heaven on a plate. A rich, creamy, and cheesy blending of flavors and topped with fantastic prosciutto. If you want rich and decadent, look no further. I ordered a tagliatelle with chicken and a wonderful almond and cream sauce. There were small raisins in it that added a pop of sweetness in the richness of the cream sauce. Delightful. The dishes were fairly large, so we didn't end up ordering dessert. Highly recommended.

We got through two starters and mains but had no room left for dessert (if we are not counting liquers). The curry pasta (with apple) and the Notre Specialite were absolutely fantastic. We are half way through our two week honeymoon and this is the best meal we've had so far, bar none. If you are unsure of this location give this one a try. It happens to be one of the most well established restaurants in the area and culinary expertise/abience/servers make this a one of a kind.
