First meal in Valparaiso. La Boca Del Oso was conveniently on the way to our hotel so we stopped by and grabbed lunch. Vegetarian but super vegan-friendly. The restaurant is located up the street at a busy intersection. You won't get the views that Valpo is known for but you will get a generous serving of their fondo del dia (served on Mon-Fri) and award-winning empanadas.
Their entree of the day comes in different combinations. You can get it with the salad, the soup, or the dessert. Or choose the menu completo and get it all. Order an empanada and share everything and you have a great meal. The cebolla caramelizada won the best vegan empanada award. If red onions aren't your thing, the espinaca y choclo is a delicious alternative.
Also serves sandwiches, pastas, and chorrillanna (fries with toppings), a traditional Chilean dish mostly associated with Valpo. Has indoor and outdoor seating. The vibe is chill. The servers are nice but the cashier(s), not so. Has a restroom. The place is also a hostel. Worth checking out. read more
