I did see some of my weird favorites; heather ale, seaweed ale, and a good selection of yeasty Belgians. A bunch of more interesting French beers, and a bunch of German stuff including some smoked Rauchbiers. Definitely a good place to get something you've never seen before --- but not a place to pick up a round of one thing.

This place has a terrific selection not just of wines from the area, but also from the Rhone, Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Loire, etc., all the great wine areas of France. What drew me in to their shop was the amazing display of rare old bottles in their windowsill. My eye was caught by the 2004 Domaine Tempier Marc de Provence, which is a brandy made from Provençal grapes and not imported into the US. (Score!!!) They had a wonderful selection of wines from Bandol, les Baux de Provence, Palette, and other appellations in the area. I appreciate when people explain wine well without treating non-sommeliers like children or savages. Our positive experience convinced us to swing back around for a nightcap later on in our time in Aix, and I'm so glad we did! The glass of bright pink champagne we enjoyed on their patio was quite possibly the most delicious wine I've ever had. We wanted to take home a bottle, but local liquor laws prevent sale after a certain time of night. If only I could turn back time....
