We walked in for a late lunch at 2:30 pm. The staff was very welcoming. The restaurant is not big but it wasn't busy at the time. Prices were reasonable. We ordered the most popular poutine, the gaston medium size. It came with minced steak, onions, sausages, cheese curds, fries, and gravy. I had poutine before in Illinois and I thought it was mid, nothing worth going back for. The Canadian version is way better. The cheese curds taste different than the ones in Illinois and Wisconsin. It was soft and went well with the housemade gravy. The meat and onions were fresh. The fries were soft and not too soggy. The flavor of the whole thing was superb. It's weird that the American versions of other countries' food always taste subpar and off.

Old‑school charm, family‑run warmth, and a friendly vibe that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. When it gets busy (and it does), it's perfect for takeout. I tried the Trio 3 Combo, and wow. The hot dog comes wrapped in butter‑toasted white bread and topped with creamy coleslaw--simple, nostalgic, and ridiculously satisfying. The small poutine that comes with it is loaded with squeaky cheese curds. Not a sprinkle... a mountain. Then there's the Gaston Poutine. This one is a full meal: heaps of cheese curds, crispy bacon, and ground beef all swimming in rich gravy. Hearty, comforting, and honestly one of the best poutines I've ever had. If you love supporting small, local, family‑owned spots--and you appreciate classic Quebec comfort food done right--Chez Gaston is absolutely worth the stop

Saint-Louis-de-France is the neighbourhood I grew up in, and this particular Ashton location has not changed since 1997. Hence the nostalgia. I have actually never eaten anything but poutine at Ashton. It's not a fancy place, so the only toppings available are hot-dog, Dulton (grounded meat), extra cheese/sauce and whatnot. I suppose that if I was more objective, I would say fries are average and taste a bit oily (they recently started using smaller ones to get more crisp, but I'm not sure I agree on the decision). The cheese is proper (squeaky = fresh). The gravy is great, but many non-locals are not used to how thin it is. In fact, it should probably be called "sauce" (it's meant to soak the fries). So, Ashton is basically the most endearing comfort food for locals, and just generic fast-food for many outsiders. I call it my own favorite, but it also made my quest for poutine very difficult in Montreal... Tip: In winter, there's rebate if temperature fall lower than -20'C. So -34'C means 30% rebate.

I prefer mine with sausages on top, but there's of course people who prefere ground meat (Dulton). Pretty inexpensive, filling, and delicious. A constant for anyone in Quebec, and anyone who loves poutine.

I was visiting from the US and was genuinely impressed by the menu. The chicken is grilled fresh on-site, giving it that satisfying charred flavor, then finished with your choice of glaze, veggie sides, and sauce. Everything tasted fresh and came together really well. It hit the spot so much that I ended up coming back a second time--and Poulet Rouge delivered just as well. The service was excellent & it also helped that this location is open till late. Definitely a spot I'd love to see expand into the US!

The passing trays looked amazing but we couldn't find seating to save our lives so we struck out to look for another location nearby. You start with a base: quinoa, rice, bulgur, fries (poutine), or lettuce. You choose a number of chicken tenders in one or two flavors, then choose from a variety of toppings. The staff here *understandably* is not great in English, which can of course change depending on where you go and when you come. This was one of our first stops before my high school/college French instruction "clicked on" again, so ordering was mildly stressful for our family. It would have been nice if there were some pre-designed bowl recipes to select from (like Cava, for example). For those of you willing to play the language barrier game, the sky is the limit in terms of how you can personalize your bowl. Like every Quebecois dining establishment, this fast food chain is head and shoulders above any American equivalent. Even their poutine (which can be messed up, I assure you) was among the top poutines I've eaten. This is a great place to grab a quick meal, as light or heavy as you require.

I loved my old style poutine forestiere with mushroom ragout, shallots and potato wedges / cheese curds. The size was on the small side, I was fully satisfied with the portion. They do not accept cash at the establishment. I also ordered a latte which was a good pick me up.

You have a wide variety of toppings and meats to choose from. You can customize your selection which is always a plus. Reason for 4 stars: customer service was great and selection was bigger than the usual fast food Mexican joints. The restaurant is also clean and has a modern decor. And what's more is that I wasn't charged extra for the guacamole!! That alone elevated my 3 star experience to 4 stars. The restaurant also offers a lot of convenient parking so it's an easy quick option for anyone looking for a semblance of Mexican food in Quebec, which admittedly is a very hard thing to find in a truly authentic form. I did enjoy eating the burger. The juicy and savory patty was balanced with the sweetness of the fig jelly and caramelized onions. For the burger's side, instead of going wih the fries we went with mac & cheese and paid extra. The mac & cheese is an easy recommend. Our other order was the Sausage poutine. The Sausage poutine was OK to good. I would not consider it among my favorite takes on Poutine, but it is still well worth the try. Service was excellent. Our waiter was bilingual in French and English and helped us with the ordering experience. He also occasionally checked up on our section of the restaurant conversing with different tables in English or French as required. The setting of the restaurant was interesting in that there is like a bar section bordered by like a balcony or terrace, and the more quiet section where we were seated facing outwards to the mall. The bathrooms are by the middle part where the guest entrance is. The walls and tiling of the place has so much character with picture frames, an arcade, and all the photos posted.
