Now this is going to be good and bad...you are warned...those with a queasy stomach, do not enlarge the photo
I needed a quick lunch; never been here before; always looked nice from the outside. So in I went...very friendly reception, busy but enough room to choose somewhere decent without nudging a neighbour
The menu is good and there is a 2 or 3 course formule...at 17€, its a steal for 2 courses
I ordered the cheeseburger followed by the moelleux...seems to be a habit recently...but so is something else...read on
If you saw my review of Cafe du Metro, you probably know what is coming...like bureaucratie, deja vu is a well used French expression...after many bad experiences, I always, always ask what they put in with the burger...I do not like cornichons and I have a horror of some of the sauces restos here see fit to inflict upon us...plus I order well done as I don't want it mooing or bleeding when I start to stick a knife and fork in it
The waitress said no, no cornichons and I heard her specifically say no sauce and well-done...so no problem there so far
When it arrived, I put the top of the bun to one side to reveal a decent looking, well-done burger with lettuce & tomato...and I could see the cheese oozing...but I had a funny feeling about this...and yes, hiding under the cheese was a full spread dollop of a tomato sauce...ugh, just about my most unfavourite of any sauce
See photo...you can hide behind the sofa if you want...on reflection, it looks more like a dead pizza
So first job, complain or scrape it all off...being of a decent disposition that day, I chose the latter option
Such a shame as both burger and chips were otherwise very good, which is why I kept the 3rd *. The moelleux was also good and with very meltingy chocolate, though it looked a little sad on the plate with no embellishment (cream, creme anglaise...). By the time I realised I hadn't taken a photo of it, it somehow had been devoured...
To sum up, ignoring the sauce...good menu, good surroundings, very good service, excellent prices
Would I go back...well, forewarned is forearmed so yes because the overall menu looked really good...there were plenty of fellow diners and those prices beat many competitors read more
