The WiFi never once worked in our room, and the staff kept making excuses, like they expected it would. But other guests had the same problem. We had to go outside or to the lobby to connect. There is no restaurant at the hotel, and it's a healthy walk to the downtown commercial area. Their bar/pub is nice and they will order food in for you, which we did one night. But it's not a real meal. Another night we did the 25 minute walk each way to a great restaurant, but had to be sure we got back before they locked the gate at 11pm. Hotel La Villa Eugene did have a few drawbacks we didn't expect.

The room was obviously recently renovated, which was great! The staff was really nice. Our room had small private balcony which we used daily! Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the garden in the back- it looked kinda sparse and sad. The pool looked nice but we didn't use it. I am glad this place had an elevator for our check in and check out with luggage. The hotel is right next door to Mercier Champagne, which is super cool! We are still telling stories about the Marcier Champagne place and everything we learned about Eugene Mercier. We walked down Avenue de Champagne daily and enjoyed walking to all the Champagne houses including Moet and Chandon. It's not that big of a deal, but they don't have a safe in the room. Also, they do not have 'do not disturb' signs which makes it hard if you don't want any maids coming in your room. Last thing, although minor- the key to the room is on a large heavy keychain and they recommend you leave it with the front desk when you head out for the day. First time I have seen a hotel do this- but its such a small and historic place, maybe it's normal for these kinds of hotels. Overall, I would totally recommend this place to friends.

Manicured grounds to stroll, rooms in period style, and a great home-base for exploring the many tiny villages and small cities in this beautiful part of France. In fact, you can just drive in and out as you please - no valet and free parking right out front. Staff are very friendly and helpful, but unobtrusive. Meals are an experience - a sort of length and formality not seen in the US, but if you have the time to relax and unplug, it's a beautiful setting. Our room was surprisingly functional though - great Wi-Fi that we were able to use on Zoom calls, nice bathroom, comfortable bed. Quirky property, but we really enjoyed ourselves!

I complained in reception and they offered a free spa treatment (not my thing) wanted to relax and soak. Wifi in hotel comes and goes not reliable. Plumbing was bad hot water was hit and miss. Smell of sewage in corridor awful. Staff smoked below our window which meant you needed to close window. No aircon luckily wasn't too hot. Restaurant was expensive €59 menu but by this point I had lost confidence and cancelled reservation so can't really comment on food. Other reviews in different sites are very mixed. Management are very defensive in those but to be honest I felt comments were justified. Save your money and book elsewhere. Think this place is struggling to survive and the customer is being penalised.

Service is amazing. We came with kids and the owner and waitresses did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. There is a beautiful garden at the back for sunny days. Very impressive!
