Our guide, Marina, had us taste a ton of fantastic meat stuffs here. For those who are adventurous, you will be rewarded with some of the most delicious morsels of food that you can find anywhere. It's interesting because the owner here, unlike in the US, will actually go out to the farms to select the cows that they want to use in the store and they will then sell meat from that cow over the next couple of weeks at their store. You can see their certifications hanging on the wall and on the ceiling to indicate that you're getting the best and the freshest. Here we tried the rillon/french pork belly as well as a pork sausage with garlic. We also happened to get a pate de campagne, pork ham with parsley, goose meat terrine and a rosette de lyon. By far my favorites were the pork belly and pork sausage. Really good stuff! Make sure to pick up some bread from the boulangerie down the street to then serve with the meat!

Wow--what a look of disgust I got from him! He reluctantly washed his hands and then proceeded to touch the rotisserie chicken! I caught him tossing scraps of fat, skin and bone in the bag! How horrible! The shop should be closed down!

I've lived in the 11th, 17th, 10th and now 2nd arrondisments and visited at least two butchers per…read moreneighborhood as well as the meat cases of innumerable Monoprixes, Casinos, Marché Us, and Franprixes. After all this experience, Tribolet is my go to butcher. First and foremost, the quality of the meat is excellent. I live down the street and see the daily delivery of whole carcasses. My husband is constantly saying things like, Where'd you get the lamb chops? They're fantastic! and This bacon is so gooooood! Secondly, they have a broad, comprehensive selection. Whole carcasses means that I can get the cut of meat for which I'm searching. Beef brisket for making corned beef? No problem! Wild game in season - rabbit, pig, pheasants, ducks, quail, etc. Charcuterie - poitrine fumée (bacon to Americans), boudin noir, saucisson sec, merguez, jamon, etc. Third, the service is patient, courteous and personable. I don't speak much French and they don't speak any English beyond chicken (I suppose due to all of the tourists who buy the poulet roti?), but even if it's painful and takes 3x as long, they'll patiently ask questions and pantomine until they understand what it is I'd like and how I'd like it. I also get complimented profusely for every new French word I use (talk about incentive!) I also appreciate that I can come in and tell them that I have no idea what to cook and they'll make suggestions of what to cook (often low cost options) AND give tips on how they'd prepare it. In other words, recipes! I've even gotten recommendations on what sides to serve. It's like taking a mini French cooking class. They're also quite skilled, so your meat is trimmed properly (no little bone chunks and enough fat for braising meats to really get tender). The fact that I can get really specific about how and how much I want something prepped saves me time in the kitchen. Finally, while some cuts are on the expensive side, some items can be cheaper than the lesser quality version at Monoprix. They also have a EUR4.80 roasted chicken that is just the right size for two people (quite small) with enough left over to make soup. That's the cheapest price I've seen for poulet roti on Montorgueil. Of special note: They stock specialty items for holidays - for example, turkeys & chapon at Christmas.

It should rank high up on great food list in Paris. It's also right beside the subway . A different neighborhood than the high end parts of Paris but I definitely recommend.

my first paris review, huzzah!…read more i passed by this boucherie on my way home from grocery shopping at the barbès-rochechouart market. actually, more like throwing down MMA-style at the barbès-rochechouart market, but maybe i'll write about that another time. anyway, i couldn't help but notice a half-dozen men standing around on the sidewalk in front of the rack of rotisserie chickens. not just standing - they were *waiting,* as the skin hadn't browned yet on the latest skewer of birds. i saw that a demi-poulet was only 3E, figured i'd give it a try & settled into my own waiting spot. one of the men started talking to me, & through a little french, a little english & a lot of gesturing, i learned that some of them had been waiting almost 20 minutes & that the chicken was bio, natural & the most delicious in all of paris. as we talked, i kept an eye on the birds, twirling & browning & dripping fat onto the potatoes gathered at the bottom of the rotisserie. so, cutting to the chase, it was the best poulet roti i've ever had. it had been rubbed inside & out with some curry mix. the skin was perfectly browned, the meat tender, juicy & flavorful. my favorite part, the wing tip, was crispy & a joy to gnaw on. as for the rest of the shop, the meat cases had a good variety of stuff that all looked fresh, including a whole rabbit with head & bulging eyes intact. eesh. the guys running the boucherie were friendly, & the one handling my poulet stuffed some potatoes into my bag free of charge (an order of the chicken-fat potatoes was 2E). definitely worth braving the long metro ride & market gauntlet. i'll be back!
