An American family in France, we had dinner at L'Ambacia last night. The food was good, the service was a little better than usual in France as we were able to get English menus and the waiter knew a bit himself, and lastly I was able to get Ice with my water. I had the beef confit which was pretty great. My wife enjoyed her beef tartar and my son had the fish dish with hummus and really enjoyed it. The bread wasn't great but that was my biggest complaint. We also shared two of the deserts, the Black Forest reimagined and Mystery which we're both quite good. read more

Good escargot! Right in front of the Amboise castle. Open on mondays for lunch! Beef steak was perfect! I ordered fish with risotto. Super delicious! Crispy skin and fluffy white fish meat! Sooo good. Highly recommend. Fir desert, I had a candid gif with wine sauce. Super delicious! read more

This place seems unusual in a place like Amboise. It has a modern interior, a burger and fries type menu and will suit quite a few people who may think French food is not to their taste. I ordered the Fish nChips. Fish was nice, crispy coating, but fries seemed like they had seen better days. Others on our group had ribs, and duck confit. It was fine and food filled an empty stomach, but I wouldn't choose this as your first restaurant in Amboise. We went to another place for dessert and coffee and had great flamed crepes, delicious ice cream duo, a banana split and cheese platter, all for 30 Euro. This was truly a great meal. My fiance and I were able to enjoy a high quality 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for only 50 euros. I had the French onion soup, steak and onions, and a delicious apple tart. He had the Caesar salad, grilled salmon, and cheese plate. Every course was delicious, and for the price...outstanding! Because it was off-season (early May), and beautiful outside, everyone was sitting outside; we basically had the whole restaurant to ourselves! The waitresses were incredibly friendly too. This restaurant was a great find in the middle of a small Loire valley town. We highly recommend you try it. read more

We wanted to eat dinner early, and this place was open. It gets good reviews on Tripadvisor, but our mistake was not to go with its strengths which is burgers and fries. My Caesar salad ingredients were unusual and the dressing was a bit too pungent with vinegar. In the main dish the quality of the piece of beef was good, but the sweet shallot sauce did not seem to harmonize. The apple tart was slightly sour. In M's salmon ravioli over a bed of spinach, the spinach was very salty. If we return we'd pick what other satisfied patrons choose, burgers and fries. read more

After being rather pleased with the quality of the food, we were very surprised at the "bait and switch" move by the waitress (and its support by the manager). My fiancee ordered appetizer, main, and dessert, which was listed as the "menu" (which like most French restaurants means a discounted price); i ordered similarly, even pointed out the menu, but when the bill arrived, it was not listed as a "menu" and so was 10 euros more than it should have been. We both spoke to waitress and manager, unlike at other nice restaurants, they would not revise the bill. We will NOT go back and we recommend all others beware of a similar bait-and-switch play. read more
