All my other dining experiences in France (and probably even in America) pale in comparison. By "Mediterranean," Yelp means to say "Syrian." I had never had Syrian food before, but after my trip to France, I had had it twice (both times at Alyssaar) and enjoyed both times immensely. My five friends and I came to Alyssaar after seeing that it had good reviews on Yelp, but we couldn't possibly have expected how attached we would get after just one trip. We were first greeted at the door by Abboud, the one man serving tables who was genuinely excited to meet us. One couldn't possibly fake his friendliness and hospitality. He is absolutely a pleasure (très charmant!) and went out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable, despite having only learned English from movies. He started out by explaining to us that this meal would be an experience of discovery, which it most certainly was in the most enjoyable way possible. Everything I tried here was incredible. I suggest coming with a friend (or a large group of friends) and ordering one of the fixed-price menus, because you'll be able to share with each other. Abboud paired our group up and taught each pair what order we should share our appetizers in to maximize the pleasure in our meals. Each appetizer was wonderfully flavorful. All the main courses we tried were phenomenal, but the one that especially stood out to me was the "boeuf à la cerise" (beef cooked in a cherry sauce, wrapped with herbs--subtle flavor, just the right amount of sweet and tart and savory). But really, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's perfect. Same with the desserts, although if you want to try something you've never had (and probably never will again), try the Syrian cheese dish--it's this lovely, soft cheese served with cream and a sweet sauce. Amazing. The baklawa also puts all other baklava I've ever had to shame. After dinner, try the house digestif--again, absolutely lovely. Expect to spend three hours here and to enjoy every second of it! I certainly did.

It had chicken, lamb, kofta with a bit of labne, hummus, and a salad of lettuce, tomato and onion. The tabouli was beautiful and it also eaten almost completely before we got a picture. All of the food was some of the best Lebanese food we have had. Service was great. The atmosphere was hopping with lots of locals enjoying their Sunday lunch. No reservations taken. Come early or during off-peak hours to snag a table outdoors. The interior is intricately decorated with old Persian tapestries, tiles, and other accents. The food - I was so surprised to have such good Persian food in the middle of Switzerland of all places. I started with the mint cucumber yogurt, which was refreshing on a hot day. For my main, I went with the barg kebab, which came with a piece of tadig (crunchy rice) which I loved. Nicely cooked kebab. The nice owner seeing that I was dining alone brought me a complimentary dessert - sholeh zard which was great, sweet, but not too sweet as it should be. I highly recommend you put this restaurant on your list to try when visiting Montreux.

On my first visit, without a reservation, I was seated on the side in a nice and quiet area, which allowed me to see the huge case of desserts, take out coffee station, etc. In addition, there is food for take out, order from the menu or some nice sandwiches, salads and soups. On that maiden visit I ordered the plat du jour, eggplant parmesan....delicious, perfectly cooked eggplant and tasty sauce. I also tasted my colleagues plate, moussaka...very good as well. On my second visit, today, I was a group of 9 (with reservation), we sat in a nice private seating area, still visible to the main dining room...here I also chose the plat du jour...did not get the name, but it was a slow cooked beef in an oniony tomato sauce, served with mashed potatoes and soup or salad. Again, delicious. Dessert...tiramisu..delicious. The wait staff, wow, super nice, smiling, attentive, fast...Fast is not the word, yes, we ordered the plat du jour so that is usually a fast item, but this was served with lightening speed. A truly enjoyable meal again. As my office has the worst cafeteria in all of Geneva, I am super happy that this place is around the corner. They also are open until 11 so you can go after work for drinks and snacks...they do NOT close at 2 PM like other restaurants in the city....refreshing to find a business where they actually want to make money. It may be my happy hour location as well, stay tuned.
