Holy Italian cioccolato! So before I left for Rome, I did some research on where to buy chocolate…read morebecause, well, I seek out the best chocolate everywhere that I go. Now, I had forgotten about this place until (happily), I came across it quite by accident while strolling around Monti. So of course, I stopped in. I was greeted by the store clerk who I first thought was a little mean-looking. However. She was a delightful woman who spoke to me in French and took the time to tell me about the different flavors, pricing etc. she was very helpful and didn't rush me as I decided which flavors I wanted. Great service. I selected a handful of flavors - about ten pieces of chocolate, and these cost 8€. Let me tell you one very important thing: this chocolate is totally worth the price. Thus far, I've tried the orange slice dipped in dark chocolate, and the lemon peel (also dipped in dark chocolate) and I can confirm that we are looking at quality. Fantastic flavors! The chocolatier makes each piece right there so you know it's authentic and fresh. Interestingly, the chocolatier is the son of the man who owns the very well known Moriondo è Gariglio, who happens to be Rome's oldest chocolate shop - so he learned from the best. If you're in Monti, these guys are worth the detour.

If you're just expecting top quality handmade chocolates, you won't be disappointed; but this store has plenty more to offer as well. Jams, teas and infusions, jellies, biscuits, sugared almonds and chocolate spreads and crèmes make it tough for even the most self-disciplined shopper to leave empty-handed. They also serve an excellent hot chocolate, to drink inside or take away. The service is friendly and attentive, and although the handmade chocolates are quite pricey, you won't be disappointed with the quality. Remember, chocolate is made from a bean so technically it's a vegetable! ;) Eat your veggies! Yum!

OK, I know I'm doing this wrong. I'm "supposed" to prefer the local gelato places that use the…read morelittle metal containers that hide the product, not some foreign mega brand that puts bigass visible trays of gelato in front of tourists... BUT: I was on a mission, and that mission was to find the best dark chocolate gelato in Rome, and somehow this place caught my eye, with its super dark gelato flavors. So I gave it a try... and wow. Mission accomplished. They have a few flavors here that are truly special that I could not find elsewhere in Rome... or at least not a version as good as the versions we had here. I got a three flavor cup, and both the "dark / noir" and the "coffee chocolate" (or some Italian word for that) were amazing. I forget what the third one was. What about the other Lindt products in this store? I have no idea. I stopped buying Lindt chocolate ever since the doses I picked up at Safeway in the states failed to make it past the first round of my taste tests.

Inside there are many choices for dessert, all of them nicely decorated and great tasting. Past the front section where you can purchase gelato and dine-in desserts, there are huge bins full of their signature candies (truffles and more) that you can mix and weigh yourself. If you are a chocolate lover, this is a good place to check out. It is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. My only gripe is that the fruity candies (chews, gummies, etc) are not very tasty... but hey, they are known for chocolate so that's alright with me.
