My favorite bed is the KBI and I had the pleasure of experiencing this bed on Memorial Day weekend. I decided to take advantage of a tanning special and boy am I glad I did. This bed had everything. I relaxed as if I had been tanning on the beach. The fans made me feel like it was a slight wind blowing across my body. Then halfway through the tan I was gently misted with water. Honestly I felt like I had taken a vacation. It was the escape I needed and I got a nice bronze tan for my first time on this bed. It even had red light bulbs alternating with the UV bulbs. I'm looking forward to returning back again.

I've tanned at Tropical Tan for nearly a decade, and I've always supported this business. But what…read morehappened recently was extremely frustrating. I asked the girl at the desk when my membership ended, and she told me September 19. I told her I wanted to cancel on the 19th and switch to buying the individual specials. Instead of honoring that, she canceled my membership immediately--without telling me that signing would end it that same day. If she had simply said, "If you sign now, it cancels today," I would have waited. It's common sense: why would I cut off my membership 15 days early when I was still planning to tan? I spoke with a manager, who said they talked to the owners, and I was told nothing could be done. After 7-8 years of loyalty, that response was disappointing. This situation could have been avoided with clear communication and respect for long-time customers. I have owned a business in Highland park for 30 yrs. I know how to treat my customers.

Not only that, there's a CrossFit company next door. And you can hear EVERYTHING! The music, instructors talking and you can physically feel them drop the weights throughout the entire salon. After a long and length process to have me buy a tanning package, which I declined, the total cost of 3 tanning sessions and the cheapest bottle (without tax) of tanning lotion, $60, Total was about $190. My first session, (bed #12), was awesome with the misting feature and air conditioning , It was absolute outstanding. I did notice that the room floor was filthy and there was lotion on the walls. That was concerning at the least. My second visit was very different. I arrived in the early evening and was promised that I would be using the same bed, but, in a different room. That was fine with me! Once I entered the room, I attempted to start the bed which it was not the same. Very different way to start the bed where the power button was on the wall .the original bed started inside the bed. I had no clue how to start the bed. I called the front desk from my cell phone while in the bed and was immediately put on hold. After waiting for approximately 3 1/2 minutes, I finally was able to raise the associate at the desk. The associate at the desk informed me that this particular bed needed to power up with the power button on the wall instead of on the bed as before. After that, I turned the bed on and everything was fine. During the 10 minutes session, I hadn't received the periodic misting feature? The session was over. I exited the tanning bed, got dressed and spoke to the associate at the front desk again. I obserserved the associate on her cell phone with the speaker feature on talking to a friend, I'm guessing, at the front desk. I informed her of the issue not having the misting feature. She immediately informed me that she wasn't sure why that wasn't working then replied, "oh, it must be out of mist? That's a two person job. One person has to be at the desk while the other person refills the bed. No one else is here so sorry.". After speaking with the associate for a few minutes, I was expecting, a credit towards a month pass. Something for the aggravation. Yet nothing was offered A few days later, I returned to the salon again and requested the bed that I had the first time, I asked, and I was informed that the bed did have misting agent within it. I informed the associate at the desk of what had transpired a few days before as for the reason I was asking. She was very nice, but, again, did not offer for me to speak to a manager or make any reparations for the situation. I finished my tan and left. I don't expect to return again. It has nice beds, if they are working properly, needs a really good deep cleaning, but, entire experiance really left a bad taste.

I went on a half price Sunday and the bed shut down because it was too hot. So I was told I had to…read moresave the minutes and use them the next time I went tanning. I was not offered to use the other bed to finish tanning. Then I went a month later to use the remaining minutes but I was told by the same employee I could not use them because it was half price Sunday and that I would have to come in on another day. I was already inconvenienced the first time because I did not get to use all my time I paid for and then I was being told to use the time I had to be inconvenienced again. I asked to speak with the manager and she was not available, the employee told me they would ask Melissa the owner to call me tomorrow when she was in. She didnt call me, according to her, the employee did not mention the issue to her. When I explained what happened the owner stated the minutes could just be used as a 5 minute tan only and additional minutes could not be added unless you would buy points which I never have bought because I just buy minutes. I explained that if this is their policy they should have it posted so people are aware of the rules but then I was told it is not a policy. I was being yelled at that she did not have to get reamed at for 4 minutes. I told her I was not the one yelling that she was yelling. She also put in that as a customer I dont even pay as a regular customer because I just go on half price Sundays. She went on saying she was thinking about getting rid of half price Sundays because they are too busy and cause the beds to shut down when they are overheated. She also explained that customers get upset when they close on Sundays for Holidays, I was not sure how this applied to me as I was not saying anything about that. She said she was not trying to make excuses for the employees but that that employee was a thorn in her side and due to family she could not fire them. Then she went on a rant and gave very unprofessional excuses for why that particular employee handled it poorly. In the end she said she would credit the 4 minutes of money back to my account but she never even asked my name and she hung up on me. I would say the employee learned their customer service skills from the owner. If they have policies the customers should be aware of before spending their money there they should be notified of those policies. When there is an issue it should be handled more professionally and courteously.
