As always, there are so many books and I love the staging of them. A lot of thought and care were put into the featured books and I love the staff recommendations, it adds a nice human touch! I went when they had 50% off select hard cover books and I'm so glad they're taking advantage of new readers and offering discounts instead of increasing pricing!!

Picked up a free copy of this newspaper at AMF Squaw Peak Lanes in Phoenix just to check out what…read morethe serious bowling geeks read. Self-billed as "Arizona's Bowling Newspaper", this publication not only covers the professional bowling circuit, but features top scores for league bowlers. Apparently, it's de rigeur to pay tribute to your almighty ball if you throw a high 200s or 300 (perfect) game. Reading the blurb for the folks who make the "Honor Scores" pages is fascinating! Case in point: 300 Game; Brunswick Zone Mesa; Kings & Queens league; June 3, 2009; Ball used: Hammer Hot sauce; Drilled by Ron Simonis at Bowlers Zone. "I would like to thank my teammates... my husband... also my girls for their love & cheering, and to my Lord Jesus Christ." There's also a handy middle section that along with a map lists Phoenix Bowling Centers and Bowling Centers Throughout Arizona. I guess there's a subpopulation out there that really takes this bowling thing pretty seriously. Dude... don't you know it!

In full disclosure, my friend is the editor of this newspaper. But she's always trusted my honest…read moreopinion, and she knows I'd give one here. When the paper first started out it was a solid 2 stars. In the last few years it's definitely worked it's way up the charts. The Write Up is one of Phoenix's very few Urban Newspapers, or as they are known in other areas, Black newspapers. The Write Up does a good job of knowing the area, so they also have reporters covering a Latino area of interest as well. They try to cover a broad spectrum of National and local issues in their stories along with some local opinion columns and locally created comics. They have even sponsored several local events like poetry night and Soul Skate (so much fun!). I have been shocked how many national artists have sat down with folks from the paper to give them interviews. I don't know how much of that is that this is a cool paper and how much it is that there just aren't a bunch of media outlets for the black/hip-hip/ethnically diverse community. While I am still looking for them to grow more, and find their voice a bit more succinctly, I think they are doing pretty great for paper that's only been around about 3 years. It's definitely worth a read to find out more about what's going on around town if you're into the scene.

Pretty much any printer cartridge can be refilled and these folks are very knowledgeable about what kinds of things the printer manufacturers DON"T WANT YOU TO KNOW! Yes REFILL your ink cartridges! It's much more affordable and the folks at this location are GREAT! Very friendly and professional. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who helped me out and explained how it all works. She was wonderful. My only regret is I did not find this place sooner! Try it out next time you feel like a victim for paying to much for stupid ink jet printer ink. Don't get new... GET REFILLED! Works like new at half the cost! Don't forget, save your old cartridges and BRING THEM WITH YOU (I think there is a core charge if you don't have empty cartridges to swap them?) I may be incorrect about that but I'm pretty sure they want your fresh empties so they can refill them too! Just call or visit their website for the correct procedure.
