Huiguang Chen is R.TCMP/R.Ac (Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and…read moreAcupuncturist). This narrow storefront is almost hidden next to the bustle of the supermarket next door. Chinese herbs (both in original natural form to be taken home and decocted, and in pill form) are available at the counter on a walk-in basis. Acupuncture is better scheduled with a phone call in advance. I called over on a Wednesday morning, and was given a slot in that afternoon. The consultation area is in the back of the store, with a desk wedged into a compact space. The usual three-finger measure of pulse was taken (right hand on pillow, left hand on pillow), and ailments described in English were recorded in Chinese script. There seems to be two separate treatment beds, where each patient can lie down on his or her stomach, to have the needles applied (in the back, legs, neck and read). Electro-stimulation was applied for 20 minutes (and I dozed with the immediate relief). On this visit, I was prescribed herbs in pill form, rather than being given herbs to decoct (boil) at home. On request, Chen issued me a receipt with letterhead of The Canadian Society of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, presumably acceptable to my extended healthcare provider for reimbursement. The herb pills are not reimburseable, but they're a nominal cost. Payment is by cash only, with a bank on the corner if you forget. From 2005-2012, I had been going cross-town (to Dupont Street) to a senior TCM practitioner, with whom I have been very satisfied. Since I live on the east side, going locally saves me the crosstown commute. My treatment by Chen was as professional and competent as I have had with others in the past.

This man is so legit. So nice, knows what he is talking about and will not scam you…read more His wife is also very sweet, and helps him. What a power couple. He does acupuncture, and can also diagnose and prescribe you traditional chinese medicine that you take home and boil. He has helped me so much. You can drop in for traditional chinese medicine, but acupuncture requires appointment. His hours are a little unique and it has always caused me confusion, so I am doing a public service here. He is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and open 10:30-6 otherwise. They both go to lunch from 1-2pm.
