The facility is clean and has an upper level for people to sit to watch the games. You also consider along the side and there are bleachers. There are also some practice areas that teams can use. It's been a little over 24 hours since I've left Hazel Park Ice Arena, and my a$$ has not thawed…read moreout. My buns were frozen after a 45 minute game. The seating area is small and right behind the goalie. The glass is pretty beat up and hard to see the full game. The waiting area was large and it was easy to find the players after the game. The snack bar was half open and didn't have any products warming up. Even though it is not directly off the highway, the Ice Arena is pretty easy to locate. Just look for the building south of the race track parking lot. The best part about the game (since we lost) was the sound system during play. I haven't heard Thunderstruck or Fall Out Boy's Light em Up in a good long while.

The view of the golf course is rather nice, as the dining area is surrounded by windows. A small dining area is available outside in a porch setting. I didn't inquire as to the hall rental rates or availability, but the facility is a real gem and would be great for wedding showers and receptions.

My daughter and her two friends (also members of the club) went inside the clubhouse on a weekday afternoon for lunch. They were not dressed paticularly fancy, but they were also not in inappropriate or distressed clothes. Nothing they have not worn hundreds of times with me to eat dinner there. When they arrived, it was an obviously slow afternoon and there was not one other party inside for lunch. When three of them (19 year-olds) walked up to be served, the two hostesses gave them a rude look, then continued seating them. After they were seated and drink orders were taken, the two hostesses and waitress began staring at them from a distance, whispering and clearly pointing as if they didn't have the common sense to know how rude that was. After they had gotten their drinks, a staff member came up to them saying they weren't dressed appropriately to be eating in the clubhouse and had to leave immediately. Embarrassed, the kids left. Now don't get me wrong. I have belonged here for ten years and I am very familiar with the dress code. It is possible the kids were slightly underdressed. However, the way the handled it is what is completely absurd and unprofessional. Why would you seat them, take their drink orders, and whisper and stare before deciding they can't be served? It is so disgustingly rude. Second of all, I know for a fact when I come in with my daughter to eat in the same clothes, they never comment or question the attire. Why? Because it is easy to be rude to young people and get away with it. There was literally no one else in the club eating and they had to waste these kids' time by seating them, then deciding they didn't want to anymore. So gross and unprofessional. We pay for these kids to be members too, so the biased behavior towards mature and respectful young people is almost humorous. I hope the bratty female hostesses and waitress learn this is not the way to handle a situation. I've seen McDonald's workers with more respect towards customers.

To boast three sheets of ice in modern day rinks is almost unheard of. These folks juggle that with no problem. All the ice here is expertly maintained. You'll always hear me bitch at the figure skaters for destroying the ice with toe picks and as such blowing-out the knees of unsuspecting hockey players. Not here. The magicians seem to anticipate this and react accordingly. Smooth sheets. Safe knees! There's a rather large parking area and you'll find quite the variety at the concession stand. Their main lobby also features plenty of bench seating and they have an ample meeting area. The bathrooms are decent but are at the rink ends, not off the main lobby. What few staff you deal with are fabulous and you can still visit Mrs. Jones and her top notch pro shop. While two of the arenas have more than enough bleacher space, the smaller rink needs more seating. That can't (or won't) be changed, sobeit. Costs obviously have increased due to Covid and its tentacles. They do have sophisticated aids and are still the goto for figure skating instruction. While the facility itself is excellent and the adult leagues are well-run, the Vipers youth…read morehouse/rec program at the Suburban Rochester location has significant structural issues that parents should consider before paying the high registration fees - and this review is specifically about the house program. It is worth noting that this appears to be a localized issue; we know coaches and parents at the other rinks associated with Suburban, and these problems do not seem to be present there. Based on our experience at the Suburban Rochester location, families should be aware of the following: Inconsistent Coaching Standards: There have been frequent issues with coaches arriving late to practices and games. More concerning is that official coaches have been absent from the bench during games, with non-certified parents filling in, which is against USA Hockey rules. Lack of Oversight: Concerns regarding coaching and player retention were shared with the Youth Hockey Director last season, specifically regarding coaches telling players they were not going to receive play time, which led to players quitting. In a house league. Despite this feedback, no changes were made and the same staff was retained. It appears there is very little accountability once the non-refundable fees are paid. Practice Quality: At the 14U level, the league rosters nearly 20 players and practices on a half-ice sheet. At this age and size, this leads to practices that are crowded and slow. Our experience was that practice sessions lacked structured drills and consisted mostly of half-ice scrimmaging, where players who were not involved just stood around. There was no focus on skill development, positional play, or other fundamentals. Disproportionate Instruction & Ice Time: The instruction and ice time are heavily weighted toward the top 4-5 players and the coaches' own children. Unless your child is one of the top players on the team, you will be paying the same amount as everyone else but receiving significantly less ice time and instruction than those few players, despite it being a house/rec league, it is treated more like travel. It would be beneficial to see the association prioritize the growth of every player on the team, rather than just a select few. Until then, parents should look at other locations or leagues where the high cost of registration is matched by equitable development for all players.
