She was right, it's a lovely little deli with a few tables out front and and an adorable back room (derriere Derriere) filled with mismatched furniture, funky lamps and thrift store finds. The decor is as chilled and relaxed as the pleasant and helpful service. The manager/owner was kind enough to fit us in last minute during a crowded lunch hour and serve us very quickly as we only had 35 minutes to eat. The one failing I found with this place was the food. I have no objections to small menus - I find they tend to mean a kitchen focuses on what it can do well - but this menu was pretty stodgy for a warm August day. N's polenta and breaded swordfish was tasty enough but very bland and unexciting and my aubergine lasagna was made up of very thick slices of aubergine which never quite cooked through, and a pretty boring tomato sauce in dire need of herbs and seasoning. All in all the ambiance is lovely and perhaps if you go for a glass of wine and some things to taste from the deli counter it's a better experience? I was a little sad it had to be said as I so wanted this cute place to have food to match.

Rating: 88/100 pts…read more 100 Patates--or, 100 Potatoes, if that wasn't obvious from the many pictures of potatoes. What's less obvious is how awesome this place is. I walked in just before noon and found the place almost empty, but by the time I was putting in my order, every seat in the restaurant was filled with locals. Expect a cross between French and German cuisine, but a stronger lean on the German side. The menu is quite extensive, including many dish names I wasn't familiar with, but what WAS certain was that regardless of what you order, your meal will most definitely include some combination of 1) Potato + 2) Meat + 3) Cheese. You'd be surprised at how many different permutations the Alsatians have figured out for this trio. What I ordered included a baked potato covered in cheese, with 4 types of sliced meats (salami, pepperoni, ham, and prosciutto) on the side. Not to be outdone, the meal also came with enough sliced vegetables to ensure a day's worth of nutrition. My friend got the Cheese Fondue--which also came with a baked potato, sliced ham, and a vegetable spread. I actually preferred this Cheese Fondue to my baked potato + cheese waterfall. First off: the potatoes are fantastic. Flakey? Flavorful? Yes, yes. 100 Patates does potatoes right. The meats were delectable as well. Though I rattled off "salami" and "ham" above, these are not your standard grocery store cold cuts. Sure, they technically still are cold cuts, but these meats have more substance and more flavor. Indeed, this is real food, rather than your standard sodium + nitrate-fest. And lastly, the cheese. Hot damn, this is some good cheese! The potatoes and meat might make you think you're in Germany, but the cheese fondue reminded me I was still very much in France. Portions are delightfully monstrous. I didn't even get a full course, and it was still way too much food for me. ...but seeing as this was to be my last meal in France, I sprung to the dessert menu and ordered what was the equivalent of a Chocolate Lava Cake. This was awesome as well! Soft, gooey in the center...it felt real, and not as if had been nuked out of a freezer. Authentic, reasonable, and filling. This is not a tourist trap, but real food, catering to real locals, and a great way to enjoy some regional specialties.

Being vegetarian I thought this was a easy choice! Nope. The only thing I could get was just a…read morebaked potato, all other menu items came with meat! Disappointed

OK admittedly we should have known that going to a Canadian restaurant was probably a bad idea but…read morewe were intrigued and they had bison on the menu, which my husband loves. All in all it wasn't that bad but I certainly would not go back, especially not with the with all the other good places to eat Metz seems to have to offer. The service was very rough around the edges but to be fair there was one guy, all on his own, with about 12 tables. He was doing all the seating, order taking, drinks pouring and serving, food delivery and clearing away, as well as bills and answering the phone. I think if they got a little more help the place would feel a bit more pleasant and clients would have a less frustrating time. Also they could do with playing some music for ambiance... The food was decent though - we shared the 'meat selection' which featured bison kebab, pork ribs with BBQ sauce and some sort of smoked meat, all of which were very tasty. The 'Canadian potato' was boiled rather than baked and enormous. Not very exciting but a novelty in France I suppose, which must be the point of this place really. In fact that's the part I liked most, the decor and the 'cuteness' of the place. Novelty yes but well done and amusing, plus very clean, which was surprising given the number of knick knacks about the place! I won't be going back but at least now I can say I have been to a Canadian restaurant. Oh and I hear from other people that the Quebecois beer selection here is very good, although I didn't sample any myself.
