The actual Truck Stop and Gas Station is literally just off of the I-90 exit for Jackson. Price of gas: 4 out of 5 Pretty cheap, I think. Remember that "mid grade" is just as cheap, or cheaper than, regular in MN because they get a subsidy from the state to add a little corn liquor (ethanol) to the mid grade. As long as your engine can run on a 10% ethanol added mix, you're good to go. Amenities: 3 out of 5 Pretty standard for a truck stop. No showers (it's not a full blown truck stop), but they sold all of your standard ready to eat items, beer, a few dairy items, and jerky. Overall: 4 out of 5 Nice and quick for a truck stop/gas station. Right across the street from a BK, so in case you need to grab some food on your travels.

And for some perverse reason, it reminds me of a famous line from Young Frankenstein - "Oh, you men are all alike. Seven or eight quick ones, and you're off with the boys! They also have branded merchandise, but this is one person that won't have a Kum and Go "Big Gulp" cup on his desk. Beyond this revelry, this chain does a lot of things right. The gasoline prices are competitive, the interior and bathrooms are clean, newspapers and fresh sweet rolls are available in the morning, employees are friendly and helpful, and there's a Red Box DVD machine ready for your rental pleasure. This particular Kum & Go is also a convenient refreshment stop for those walking or biking on the Iowa Lakes trail between Spirit Lake points South. And since I grew up in this greater Estherville/Okoboji area, the coincidental contacts with old friends or their relatives is often a pleasant surprise.
