It was founded in 1965 in my home state of WI, specifically, Eau Claire (have fun pronouncing that all you non-Wisconsinites). A Long John is a yeast/raised doughnut that is typically iced and sometimes filled with custard, cream, or some other filling. The term is primarily utilized in the Midwest, Texas, and Canada. Other parts of the U.S. refer to Long Johns as Bar Doughnuts, Finger Doughnut, or Cream Stick (that one sounds kind of dirty). The variety I have from Kwik Trip had chocolate icing and a multitude of OREO chunks decorating its surface. Cookies n cream is one of my favorite dessert flavors and I was ecstatic that it even contained creme in the center. I honestly thought this was going to be a top tier doughnut but could not have been more wrong. All the bells and whistles are useless if the basics are neglected. In this case, the body of the doughnut/dough had a bland flavor and did not taste fresh (or at least poor texture). It seemed like it was almost this was some sort of a prank. Also never issues with the pumps, they're always in working condition. Only recently have I popped into the conicent store itself. It's fully stocked with all the classic gas station things - drinks, snacks and essentials. Desperate for a drink, I grabbed a Body Armor. Staff wasn't necessarily friendly but also in no way rude or impolite. Overall, this gas station is maintained well and I'll continue to return.

The store it self was unique because it's a liquor store but is has Bbq to go, pizzas, fresh rib eyes, cheeses, take and bake food, sandwiches, liquor, beer, wine, cigars etc. Unfortunately the Bbq is cooked in batches and sold out of the deli case cold that you have to reheat, not a big deal for me. I followed my rule that if you smell smoke when you walk in, I'm getting the full slab even though it's wrapped in foil and I couldn't see them. The full slab was very reasonable at $16.95 by the way. At first unwrapping I'm like dam nice bark and look how meaty the rack is, I hate that some places give you thin and bone racks so thank you for a nice rack. After heating up a third of the rack the bark came to life and was tasty, thick and sticky. The ribs were very meaty/tasty with that nice pink smoke ring but not very Smokey. The rib meat was moist and pulled clean off the bone. While there I bought a package of jalapeño meat sticks and a Czech beer from 1842, Pilsner Uequell imported it says. For a liquor store doing Bbq I'm giving them 4 stars because the ribs were good and they use meaty racks and at $16.95 for a full rack it's a good value. I would definitely get these take and bake Bbq ribs again and try other Bbq items from here.

After spending $75 on gas, I went inside to pay and asked if I could have a small plastic cup. I was surprised when I was told it would cost 40 cents. It may seem like a small thing, but after years of being a customer and making regular purchases, it felt unnecessarily petty. Anyone who follows me knows I'm a BBQ hound all over the country and I never do pulled pork because it doesn't interest me but Mexican carnitas on the other hand is something I have to always get. The store is pretty much the same as the 27 st location with the ice cream shop, meat, deli, produce, western union thing, hot table, dine in seating etc etc. The meat prices in the weekly ad seem very reasonable. The carnitas is my only reason to stop over and compared to other Mexican stores it isn't in a swimming pool of lard at this location and are on the dry side which I prefer over a pool of lard but I like them as they are. The hot table is way more than Mexican with a variety of items including pizza puffs etc etc. The cashier was friendly and greeted me with a good morning. Now that I have two Mexican food stores in the area I'm going to see who has the best carnitas.

It did have some frozen options in the front and limited dairy section in the back along with a small bread section in the corner. They also had an assortment of paper plates/napkins and cleaning products. The aisles are numbered, but it would be helpful if they also listed the categories of what was found in the aisle. There is a pizza and chicken wings vendor to order from, but during my visit (just shy of 6p) there were only wings out. It looked like the pizza oven hadn't been used yet and there was no pizza ready to go. At checkout they have a large assortment of "vape" pipes. The prices weren't displayed for all of the products (like the frozen pizzas) so it was a bit of a guessing game. Prices were more or less as expected, not more affordable compared to the other options within a mile. I'm unsure how often I'll find myself here, the dairy section was too limited to be helpful for quick groceries but they had an abundance of snacks and energy drinks. They're new, I'm sure they'll get into a rhythm and I'll come back in a month to see if they're cooking with that pizza by then.
